The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

My home computer was repaired (needed a new hard drive) and fortunately for me, all of the data - including my novel draft - was recovered, which was quite a relief.

My Gotham class has been going along splendidly, and it has encouraged me to go out and buy copies of the "Best American Short Stories" anthologies for 2007 and 2008. I'd be thrilled to know if anyone in Book Marketing has ever had their stories printed in Tin House, Zoetrope or other well known short story mag. Publication in a magazine is a pre-req for even being considered by the "Best American Short Stories" editor and annual guest editor. In 2007 it was guest edited by Stephen King, in 2008 it was Salmon Rushdie, fyi.

I've continued writing short stories, and the pitiful 25 draft pages I have as the beginning of my novel have been sitting. That said, I've noticed that when I write short stories I'm able to focus my energies, get the plot going quickly and I feel quite satisfied when I'm able to complete them in a few weeks. In addition, the Gotham class requires a 500 word homework assignment weekly, which is a perfect 'fire-starter' to get the creative flames going.

What short stories have you read lately?
