What I Absolutely Can't Live Without

I've just gotten a copy of Lahiri's more recent short story collection Unaccustomed Earth. I'm really looking forward to reading it. I've also joined a book club at work. We haven't met yet, but we've selected Aravind Adiga's Between the Assassinations, which is also a collection of short stories, as our first book. We're planning to discuss the first three stories in the collection at the end of this month.

In the meantime, my writing has slowed down considerably. I'm frustrated by my own lack of consistent effort and I need to climb up on that horse again and get back into it. I've got several short stories just waiting to be edited and whipped into shape, I think that it's good to leave them to ferment in a proverbial electronic drawer for a while so I don't go too crazy trying to complete them.

And of course there have been additional small mag. rejections along the way. I know what people mean by needing to be in it for the long haul and not giving up. It's tough to keep writing and producing what I think is decent work but not having an outlet to readers to enjoy it.

Need to just keep plugging away at it.
