The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I am interested in finding out about writing contests for self-published authors. I'm sure they are around, at least I hope so. There are so many authors having to self-publish these days. That is, if they ever want to see their work in print. It is almost impossible to find a traditional publisher to even look at your work unless you are an established author, and you cannot become established without getting published. There are so many good writers that will go to the wayside because they will give up.
But, back to my original request. Self-published writing contests. Maybe I'll ask on Twitter too. Any info would be appreciated.

I looked through all of my writing contest material and most of it was outdated. I keep a file on my computer and save it under contests and once in a while I look at it. Most writing contest are legal, but it is a money making scheme. Ten thousand entries at $75 each and a grand prize of $2,000 is a nice haul. You could even hold your own contest, but be sure to check out the legals first. This comes from the old Australian story about a company offering $500 prize for the two best bushels of wheat in the country. The submission was two bushels of wheat and it ran for an undetermined length of time. How many bushels of wheat do you think they took to the granary before they awarded the prize. There are other examples, but, hey, who am I to judge another man for the way he makes his money. That is unless he gets it from me. Dr M
