Hi, Jo, I really enjoyed reading your profile. I just had my first book published. I'll be 60 Dec. 7th. I love animals too, and have a website www.freewebs.com/authorsforanimals. I've been trying to come up with ideas for promoting books too. Hopefully we can put our heads together. Love to hear more about you and your projects! Mary Fitzgerald Rodriguez
Hi Jo,
Book signing do work. First people have to know you are having one. Join www.authorsden.com. It cost $4.00 a month. Once you put an event in, it goes on the internet. I had someone come an hour away seeing my signing.
Go to a radio station and ask for an interview a few days before your signing. It's free advertising.
Don't just sit at the table when people come around. Greet them. Don't push yourself on them if you see they aren't interested.
Give your business cards to the bookstore manager and ask him (her) to put one in every customers bag when they buy a book from their store.
Remember one important thing. You can talk forever about your book, but what a reader really wants to know is, "What am I going to get out of reading your book." You can skip the long talk describing your book, talk about what they will get out of reading it.
Pass out excerpt from your book. Make sure you publisher, online bookstore, your website is on it. Anywhere they can purchase the book.
Give a free gift out. Try to give something relating to your book. My book is spiritual and I give out prayer cards. It shocked me on how many people want them.
This is why writer's groups in bookstores are so important. You get so many ideas from others. Always carry your business cards and leave them on the tables when you pay for your meals were you eat, put them in the envelope when you pay bills by mail, or leave them on the boards in stores, on the counters in stores. Leave them wherever you can.
Thanks for adding me to your network of friends. I'd like to take you up on your offer regarding your desire to post items of interest, news and other pertinent information to writers on your web site.
Last Saturday I held a book signing at a local bookstores/coffeehouse in my hometown. I was wondering if you might find the article interesting and newsworthy? The story can be found in the Hollistonreporter.com specifically in the Now Featuring In Arts section.
"On Saturday, June 21, Chris Tatevosian, Holliston High School Class of 1979, hosted a book signing event at Coffee Haven on Woodland Street". Please visit the article and let me know what you think. I look forward to getting to know you better. Have a great evening.

A TIME TO HEAL WITH GENTLE RAINS
THEIR SOUND IS SOFT AND SWEET
THEY HEAL A DEAD AND LONELY HEART
OR THOSE WHO FACE DEFEAT
THE SOFT CARESS OF RAIN DROPS
THE DEEPENED THUNDERS ROAR
I'LL LISTEN TO MY GENTLE RAINS
TILL I FEEL PAIN NO MORE
TO ALL WHO HAVE SEEN HIS MAGIC
TO ALL THAT HAVE SEEN HIS FACE
REMEMBER FIRE IN HIS EYES
THE HONOR NOT DISGRACED
HE HOLDS HIS WISE OLD HEAD UP
AND HE SAYS NOW LISTEN TO ME
NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU HEAR
AND ONLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE
I am happy to be added to your friend list. I, too, published for the first time in my 60's. Having breast cancer and liver problems propelled me to a year of research, organic foods, developing recipes that led to writing "Organic for Health."
I am now working on a book trailer and blog tour. Have you had either of these? They are both new experiences for me.Life is exacting at any age.

Thanks for putting me on your friends list. At one time I attempted to do a show in Hobbs, but it never worked out.
I'm presently in Missouri, and rarely get back to NM, although if I weren't on the road, NM would be my first choice as a place to be.
I'll visit your website. Mine is http://deanhinmon.com
Wishing you the BEST with your writing.

I do believe marketing is more work than writing the book!
The blog begins July 7, and we are working on it already.
