The unemployment rate stands at approximately 7% and this number will fluctuate every month. With over 12 million people unemployed; given that not everyone is actively searching for a job it will take between 90,000, 120,000 to 500,000 new jobs every month to keep up with the steady population growth.

Over half of American adults by age 65 would have lived through poverty. Almost 15% of American's  struggle to put food on their tables although they live in the wealthiest nation on earth. Even more reasons for people to take their job search seriously.

To get a better perspective of the job market one will have to consider the number of under-employed persons who are taking part-time work, despondent adults who stop looking for a job and the number of young people who fail to search for a job and living off Welfare.  This number of 7% could quickly rise to a national average of 14% .

While recent college graduates stand a better chance of landing a job over senior workers who are actively searching for a job the hostile anti business wars by unions against retail outlets and restaurant chains and Obama care are creating a new trend of  full-time part-time workers.

Yes, companies are now hiring only part-time workers and creating a shift system to facilitate the change.

Job seekers and school graduates face a lot of fears but among the biggest is being told they are either:

  1. a.      Over-Qualified

  1. b.      Under- Qualified

  1. c.      You are not hired

  1. d.      You are fired.

It can be a daunting task especially after spending years of studying preparing for the real world and for work only to be told less favorable news. This kind of bewilderment can seem like a punishment to a lot of students and are expressing greater frustration today as they attempt to prepare for that life they dream about. The challenge is adequately preparing for the world of work.
