Peter,
You certainly did a great job of compiling such a comprehensive list of free hosting Websites. While anything free is always attractive, there are some challenges to using a free site for your book marketing efforts. The major search engines shy away from them which limits your organic traffic and many free hosting sites will post ads on your Web page. If you want to sell books, you need a strong online presence and appear professional. Hosting is very inexpensive and you can automatically install a Wordpress blog or create a simple Web site using the supplied templates. You also should own your own ".com" domain name. People want to trust those they do business with online and a free site usually does not foster that trust.

Just a few suggestions. :)

Good points, and as I said, I don't recommend anyone rely on these for their entire online presence. Owning your own domain is essential. These free online sites for writers and author, just like the places to add or list your books for free, are great ways to gain extra exposure or to create backlinks to your site/blog so that it shows up in the search engine rankings. Simply another way to gain extra exposure online - for free.

I've been listening to podcasting and news letters about shortening my site. williamsawyers.com. Since comcast messed up my site and my new one isn't ready yet figure I'll have a back up. http://www.freewebs.com/william2233/index.htm

I'm not sure if you are referencing the free online sites for authors and writers link, or the places to add or list your books for free link. I just checked both of them and they are working - as well as the internal links on both pages. I try and keep them up-to-date as often as I can.

I just updated the free online press release sites for book marketing page for example.

Anyways, I hope some of these resources help people out.
