The story takes place in Rota Spain while I was a U.S. Marine. I was being flown to Rota Spain to catch up with a ship that requested a radio operator. Upon arriving to the Rota Navel Base, The ship that I was to catch had Already left port. I had to check into a Transit Barracks and await a flight to the ship.
How I met a couple sailors in the transit barracks that was also waiting to go some where.
How these guys implicated me in an attempt of robbery, that I Put a stop to.
How I ran instead of hanging around for any police.
How the other sailors got caught robbing a second cab the following night.
My arrest by the Spanish police, the interrogation, going to Rota city Jail.
Being handed over to the Navy for pre trial confinement on the Base.
The trial, the 5 year sentence to Prison in Spain.
!3 months In Cadiz Prison, awaiting my appeal.
My release.
My motivation for writing the book, Is that I think it’s a story that has to be told. Because of the way it happened. No American involvement except holding us over for trial. How I had to use Spanish Lawyers that worked on cases involving Americans, and Spanish courts and trials. Even how my active duty status, was put on hold, during my 13 months in prison.
How at that time in Spain drastic changes were taking place politically. And the U.S. trying to get Spain to join NATO. Some Spanish did not want Americans in Spain, wanted The U.S. out.
How I was being used by the Spanish as a reason Americans don’t belong in Spain.
The story is about all my struggles and hardships along the way My life in Cadiz prison, as well as the Navel Brig.
My life at the Marine Barracks, on and off base between times of being locked up.
A story worth telling.
