Interview Friday with SFC Poetry Editor Fred Marmorstein

I hope you all have been enjoying getting to know the different SFC Team members. It’s been lots of fun interviewing them and even finding out a new thing or two myself. Well this week I have our SFC Poetry Editor Fred Marmorstein with us. Fred taught secondary school Language Arts for seventeen years before devoting himself full-time to writing. He holds degrees from SUNY-Binghamton and New York University, and has published fiction, non-fiction and poetry. He currently lives in northern…

The Name's the Game

One of the many common questions people ask authors is, “Where do you get your ideas from?” Actually, the correct question should be, “From where do you get your ideas?”

Anyway, many authors will answer, “From everyday life.” Just walking around looking at things and people and listening to news stories. At the Killer Nashville writers' conference last August, guest Jeffrey Deaver told how he came up with the idea for The Burning Wire. He had an electrician over one day who did some… Continue

Review: Sin Creek by Susan Whitfield

More Truth than Fiction

Sin Creek, new in the Logan Hunter mystery series by Susan Whitfield, is an eye-opener and a heart-breaker, but with the sweetest redeeming ending.

Having had a long-standing friendship with a detective, when reading Sin Creek, I felt a sense of déjà vu about events I know to be true. These foul crimes do exist and are proliferating all over the…

The Mystery Behind Artifact Theft

Ancient American artifacts are being sold to the highest bidder. When an ancient ruin is discovered, it doesn’t take long for thieves to find out about it. Archaeological thievery is becoming more and more of a problem every year but Utah’s vandalism is the worst in the country. Theft at the Four Corners area of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona is still a big problem. The damage to these sites is estimated at almost $42,000 in two year’s time. An ancient funeral pit can be sold for as…

Alex Berenson The Secret Soldier

Things are getting intense around here at Gelati’s Scoop. We are getting involved in much and have much more to do. Sound vague, yes but I have a few things going and can’t reveal all at this time. Next week I am going to drop in something neat, at least I hope that you like it. Anyway, we got a nice compliment from author Irene Hannon on our blogtalk show the other day. Irene was nice enough to point out that the guest we have had and will be having on the blogtalk show are some pretty…

Winning Writers (So-Called) Follow-Up

I will compare Winning Writers boorish behavior to Glimmer Train.  At Glimmer Train, I uploaded the wrong version of a story in their current short short story contest, and later uploaded the correct version.  When I emailed Glimmer Train to make certain that they had the correct version, they refunded the fee for submitting the wrong version - Even though I did not request a refund but only wanted to make certain they had the correct version of my story.  With…

The Queen’s Marksman – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat
‘The clouds had covered the moon, and the night was dark and cold.  The single rider on horseback picked his way along the meager tufts of grass lining the dusty trail until he came to within one hundred meters of the camp.  There he dismounted, drew his rifle…
