I recently discovered a great site for free feedback on your writing. It's:
Mywriterscircle.com. I put up the first chapter of my new sci/fi novel
INSECTLAND and already have more than 60 views and ten comments on improvement.
Wow. The only catch is that you have to read and comment on others writing. But
hey, there's no longer a need to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for
editing when you can get it free!! These writers on the site are good, too.…

Monk is rolling! Yes this is like reading what happens to a caged animal that gets loose or let out of his pen. With nothing to hang around his neck, and the weight of the show and the television season gone, Lee Goldberg takes the characters to new heights. We get to finally see what the man can do with a set of characters on the open highway. I personally love it. Think about it, what can the man do with Monk? The guy keeps himself in a box and is the central character, and personally I…

I’ve received many questions over the past year in regard to marketing a novel and the best way to go about it. It’s simple and complicated. How’s that for an answer? No doubt the Internet has made it easier and more streamlined to market any product, but there is still a mountain of work to maintain on a regular basis.
Here are five basic questions and how I’ve approached marketing a novel. You can be free from all the unnecessary paperwork and promotion by…

Let me just get this off my chest right now; I’m sorry Cody Toye! I read this YA tale a while ago and I mistakenly thought I had posted on it, but have come to find out I have not. Big mistake my friends. One thing the Toyeman knows is sci-fi/fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed this short story and want to set the record straight. Just so you know, the second in the series hits the end of this week, so if you haven’t downloaded the first, double up get both. They are $.99 each, and have a ball…

Many of you know that I am the father of eight wonderful children, and I know that I am fortunate to say the least. They are all healthy, way smarter than I’ll ever be, and I am told they are way better looking than the oldman. Thank God for my wife right, well I do every day. Okay, so what is it I am yapping about now. Here’s the deal, I have been fortunate enough to have been given another gift of being able to work with an incredible group of authors that are extremely talented. To…

I love writing blog posts for other blogs! There are so many great blogs out there, it's amazing.
Today I stopped by Blogging Authors. Here's my post:
I become thoroughly exhausted, both physically and mentally, after finishing a novel project. In some instances, I felt like I WAS fighting serial killers, solving crimes, and executing daring escapes.
It’s more important than ever to keep your body and spirit in balance no matter what your daily work or…

Many writers and illustrators ask me, "Is it really important to have a book trailer for my upcoming book?" My answer is "YES!" Book and Event trailers are a lot like movie trailers. They catch viewer interest if done right. I don’t know if you have noticed, but many BIG publishing houses have discovered…

Thanks to all who commented and followed me on the tour. Unfortunately, I ran
out of time to comment on everyone but I did manage to leave a few and like and
repost most of your blogs. But now it's time to move on. I've been marketing
AFTER for several weeks now and it's exhausting work. I have managed several
sales and have gottten a lot of exposure but it is taking away from my true
love... creating my own worlds. I've decided to publish my next book by…

I have a unique viewpoint I think of the man known as “Big Daddy Abel”. I have been an observer of his Facebook wall, read some of his thoughts and feelings prior to his publishing the “Open Mic” series, and have been fortunate enough to have collaborated with him twice now on “The Jersey Shore Has Eyes” and our new release at the end of this week “The Edge of Cataclysmic” which is more non-fiction than fiction. Basically any of the fiction comes from me in part, even most of my stuff is…

As a writer, author, and criminologist, I find that I wear a variety of hats throughout my working day. Writing, editing, promotion, researcher, and expert are just to name a few. One of my favorite hats is when I’m beginning a new book – that particular hat is outliner and researcher merged together. I get really excited all over again, just like it’s my first novel.
The BIG question I hear more than most, “How long does it take to write a novel?” I can confidently say on average…

All her life, the archetypal hero and his journey have enthralled Darby Karchut. A native of New Mexico, Darby grew up in a family that venerated books and she spent her childhood devouring one fantasy novel after another. Fascinated by mythologies from around the world, she attended the University of New Mexico, graduating with a degree in anthropology. After moving to Colorado, she then earned a Master’s in education and became a social studies teacher.
Drawing from her extensive…
