WHEN IT SEEMS THERE'S NO HOPE, THERE'S JESUS!

Emotions constantly stirring, no quietness or peace, just the same companion....worrying.  How to shut off these mental images and fearful thoughts, deliver me Jesus from the demonic darts. Sleep or wherever it is I go offers me a few hours of escape depending on the number of pills I take.  Each day seems…

The County Seat Killer-Book 3-Amazing Gracie Mystery Series-Chapter 1

Where was I? I had to look back at the last blog post to see which book I left off with. My dial up system isn’t working right. I’ve placed several calls to see why I get disconnected or not able to dial in. Each time I get a different person that thinks the problem is solved. In just a few minutes, I find out I still get cut off. So this morning I’m going to give posting a try before I call in for more advice on what to do Where next. We went to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on Friday at the start of the… Continue

The P.I. Life, Part 2

As promised, here's the second part of my interview with Amy Drescher, private investigator.

8. How much do you utilize computers in your business?

The internet is a tool of the trade. I’m online daily to run background checks, search profiles on Facebook, access property records and on and on. A serious P.I. subscribes to at least three different proprietary databases. It’s like “one-stop shopping”—with essentially one-click, we can access comprehensive data on an…

April Pohren "Welcome to the Land of Insanity"

Have you seen the cover? Do you have kids? Have you ever watched kids? Have you had a bad day and have kids? Have you just had a bad day? Okay now I think you can understand the “surreal” nature of the cover and what the story in part is about. The best part of the whole thing though is what lies inside. April Pohren is starting to stretch her legs as an author and takes a crack at a different genre this time, moving away from her amazing debut: “Dream Me to Death”. This is definitely her…

I love publishing books that shake-up the mainstream

Yeah, I had a top agent once; Gary Heidt at Signature Lit. Yeah, at one time I was

also signed to one of the best agencies in NY; Fineprint Lit. Yeah, I got phone

calls that editors wanted to buy my books. Yeah, you guessed it, they all fell

through in the end. But you know what? I don't care. Cause now, I can write,

publish, and sell anything I want. When I was signed to these agencies I got

dozens of rejections, not because my stuff was bad, the editors all said,…

William Tooker "Black Betty" Vol.2 "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" Series

Horror anyone? William Tooker knows his horror; that is evident from the first few paragraphs of this story. “Black Betty” is the second installment of the “Slouching Towards Bethlehem” series and continues the storyline in the most gruesome way. I like to hear about when people are harvesting things, usually that is good right? You harvest crops, etc, but what are they harvesting in “Black Betty”? I don’t think it is hay and apples.

“Black Betty” delves deep into the minds and souls…

Forsaken Jeffrey Martin Jr. The Author's Lab/Collaboration series

Mass murder and serial killers just seem to go together so why not have two in the same story. In fact why not have one serial killer try to bring the other to justice?  And to top it off why not make the deal sweeter by…? Wait I can’t tell you that part; it would be a spoiler. I don’t do that, sorry. Here is the deal on this installment: Jeffrey Martin has come up with an insanely great character that is, well, insane, and to boot he is a serial killer with certain tastes. I would prefer…

The P.I. Life, Part 1

As the countdown continues toward the October 1 release of Beta and the first adventure of private investigator/martial artist Mallory Petersen, I thought I’d take an opportunity to show you a small part of the world of an actual private investigator.

I met Amy Drescher at the Killer Nashville writers’ conference in 2010. She sat on a panel discussing…

Harry Houdinin: a Guest Post by C.E.L. Welsh

This essay appears at the end of C.E.L. Welsh's latest work, Coffeyville, a Harry Houdini Novella, and discusses the author's love for the subject matter:

“The Story Behind The Story: Coffeyville, a Harry Houdini Novella

I am a retired magician. Actually, that may be stretching things on a few technicalities; yes, I have been paid to perform magic, and thus could have been considered a pro, but my skills never eclipsed the mildly talented. It has been years since I’ve handed…
