First Draft

Made it! I finished the first draft last week: 98,000 words. I did promise myself I would have a break before beginning the read through and edit, but I started reading it a couple of days ago. Pat asked me this morning if I was pleased with what I had written and I found myself hesitating before I could answer. Does that mean I’m not happy with it? Who knows? I have to go with my instincts and my self-belief. In a TV interview (it can be seen on my website) I claimed that a writer should be…

Two Established Literary Agents Looking for New Clients

Every so often an established agent will announce that she or he is seeking new clients. Generally, this happens when the agent switches to another agency (which is why you need to read Publishers Weekly, where these job moves are posted).

Whenever an established agent seeks out new…

Amber Schamel shares her Hummus recipe!

Here's a recipe to go along with your reading of The Healer's Touch. Hummus has been a favorite of the eastern people for centuries and is a favorite of Aaliyah's and she often prepared it for Tyrus and Malon. We enjoyed a lot of Israeli hummus on our journeys to the Holy Land. When the Messiah walked the earth, he would have eaten hummus, and this could have been the bread…

Susan J. Reinhardt: On My Nightstand - Last Chance for Justice by Kathi Macias

A recently widowed woman, an attentive daughter, and a mystery combine into a story that will touch your heart. The relationship between Lynn Myers and her daughter, Rachel, reminded me so much of my mother and me.

Kathi got the details and emotions right. The grieving had me nodding my head and saying, "I remember feeling that way." She also accurately…

The new future

It used to be that an aspiring author would write a novel and then painstakingly send out SASE’s (remember them) hoping to land an agent. If the author did land an agent, then the author would hope for a publishing contract. If by miracle of miracles the agent actually sold the book, then eighteen months later it came out in the bookstore (remember those) and the author started doing a grueling schedule of signings hoping to recoup more money in sales than the advance…

Recently Published Novel

Please take the time to check out my recently published novel titled, The Tarnished Shooter. It is an interesting and compelling story for both young and old. Set in the early 1970s about a coming of age teen who realizes he has to figure out a way to use his wits instead of his fists to deal with the hypocrisy and dog-eat-dog world of society. This could be interesting to those who want to know about the brutal psychological and physical training methods used in the Marine Corps…
