As you were: back to basics

So where was I? I missed last week’s blog post, but have no real excuse. Maybe it’s just a case of getting back into the swing of things. I’m slowly getting my writer’s head back, and have started promoting again. Over the last month or so, my rankings on Amazon have dropped away steadily, and I can only put that down to the fact that I have been pretty lax in that department. Mind you, my rankings picked up a couple of days ago. I think that was because a small promotion I had planned…

Retrospective

Since I started this blog nearly four years ago, I never in my dreams thought that it would receive several hundred thousand views. My base of followers has grown steadily and my page views per day are increasing nearly every week. I would like to thank all of my followers and interested readers for that.

Looking back years ago at my first few posts, I can clearly see an old-soul writer trying to understand a twenty-first century technological world. Many of those first…

Their Working Attitude

Before they start off for the day

There’s the common song- and- dance

Which they value dearly

To them, life must move on very slowly

They always asked

Do the jobs for the day

involve life and death

Otherwise, they say

Sit down, have a cigarette and a cup of coffee

and talk on what you saw last night at the pub

Was there any new girl coming from Thailand

or Indonesia ?

Why must they spread noxious poison every…

The Traitor's Stories

The white men’s bootlickers

spied for them and brought China to its knees

Yet these bastards got

nothing more than chief clerks’ and

chief office boys’ positions

in the colonial offices

Their sisters and daughters

turned to prostitution

to satisfy the need of the white sailors

One school principal told me

he wanted to teach in Hong Kong

The school authority told him

he must be a believer

for they…

The Skilled Orangutans

The Skilled Orangutans

They aped the Europeans by

taking sunbath from 1300 hr to 1500 hr.

At 0900 hr they took cups of coffee

without milk or sugar

and sat under the morning sun

sipping, and reading the Straits Times

not knowing that reading under the sun

without a pair of dark glasses will damage the retina.

It…

Gratitude

The Chinese used to say:

When you drink water,

please know the source

Today, this sort of gratitude is seldom seen

Instead we have a bunch of rude people

Who’re only good at complaining on others

not knowing that one cannot

see his own face without a mirror

There was once a very rich guy

He had a fast car and many girl friends

One night his car ran into a pool of water

about ten  inches wide and a quarter inch…

A Smart Employer

The greedy employer had the pile of

application letters on his table.

There were more than one hundred of them.

He had a glance at each of them.

One after another the letters went into

the waste paper basket.

His comment was :

this one was greedy,

he did not mention how much he expected.

Can I pay him $100000.00 per month?

No way.

This one thought he was smart.

He worked in a refinery

and he wanted…

The Extraordinary Ordinary

1) Workmen have been replacing the roof on my house this week and I have found it an extraordinary encounter for two reasons.  First, it offers me a sense of security I have not known the last few winters as I watched shingles pile themselves up in the yard.  But more importantly, I discovered once again the gentle kindness in virtual strangers.  One very windy day, the workmen realized it would be an act of near suicide to attempt to work up high, so they were going to quit early. I agreed…

The Road to Nirvana

Some progress fast

Others progress slowly

Let the fast ones not look down

On those who walk slowly

Does it matter

If you take a trillion kalpas

To attain Nirvana?

If you’re sure of the journey

The time is not a problem

Did the Buddha ever say

You must arrive within a certain time?

Or the gate will be closed?

Ksitigarbha said he would wait

Until the hell is totally…

The Conqueror

The bandits blew up the statues of liberty,

Cheng Ho and Raffles

One after another they crumbled

As if this earth must be totally flat.

Defending armies came and were always wiped off

The invincible warrior triumphed

He believed he was the chosen one

The whole world was crumbling

From day one to day…

The Greedy Bosses

In the industrial concern

where I’m working

it is most difficult to be an engineer.

You must be exceptionally good

in your field

or you’re an excellent bootlicker.

Don’t expect them to love you

because you’re smart.

Why should they?

When they can bring in employees

of their choice

and make thousands of dollars every month.

How does your presence benefit your boss?

My foreign subordinates…

Poem: Lacking Peace?

The revolving doors of strife

are in opposition to peace;

unfulfilled desires of lust,

burning with envy and anger,

offers no one any release…

to those personal conflicts.

Wanting stuff with wrong purposes

for selfish pleasures of life,

will result in spiritual confusion-

more so than a three-ring circus.

Insecurities of deceitful hearts

can generate disastrous events,

with life spinning out of control;

His grace will…
