When the Power Goes Off - John C. Bieber

The power went off at our house last Saturday night during the first snow of the season. We had 8 inches where we live. I like it when the power goes off. Unfortunately I have a furnace that has an electric blower, but a few dark quiet hours are always a welcome break. Like most people when the power goes, we light candles and just wait. In the summer months I often light a candle when a good line of thunderstorms rolls through secretly hoping for the lights to go out. It seems that the… Continue

Crossroads is available,The Raven Affair to be released soon

Reviews for Crossroads (web site: http://www.snedelton.com)

"Reminiscent of John Le Carre with a dash of Ian Flemming, Steven Nedelton's Crossroads plunges us deep into the complicated and not yet thawed Cold War mind-power experimentations and its dubious dark characters that once inhabited that volatile underworld. Written with an uncanny knack for plot and time-shifting, this 21st century thriller also introduces us to 20 th century CIA Agent… Continue

My Book, Sacrifices In The Name of Love Will Be Published Soon. Woohoo!

My book, Sacrifices In The Name of Love has been accepted for publication by Red Rose Publishing. It certainly has been a long time coming, and certainly I've had my share of rejections from other publishers and agents. So to say this feels good, is definitely an understatement. I didn't seem real until I went to Red Rose's website, and saw my title listed under the 'Coming Soon' tab. I know, I know, there's no bookcover yet, and not much information listed except a small book blurb, but it is… Continue

Happy Holidays!

I am chatting about Christmas memories over on my blog http://writingspace.blogspot.com and decided to try to do that here too.

I remember silver Christmas trees in the seventies. We had one and it was really neat with a colored wheel that turned and changed the color of the tree.

What do you remember about Christmas past?

CONFESSIONS OF A CONTEST JUNKIE

I was asked to give my “Write to Win” workshop at the '07 Murder in the Grove conference. I do this workshop dressed in Army camouflage and teach guerrilla techniques for winning writing contests.

I love writing contests. When I hear of one or come across a contest on the Internet, my heart starts racing and ideas flood my mind. My competitive spirit kicks into high gear. I may never run a marathon or win a ballroom dance competition, but give me a theme and a deadline and I'm up for… Continue

Black Men and White Women - An Epidemic?

This once taboo of a black man seeking and being seen with a white woman is no more. Not too long ago black men were beaten to death or lynched for this very act.

I don't know if it's due to the election of Barack Obama to the presidency, or everyone now sees racism in this country as dead and buried; but it seems to be a growing trend to see a "brotha" on the arms of a Caucasian woman these days.

Are they trying to say that a black man being seen with a white woman is an honor… Continue

First part of Midnight Reflections

Here is the first part of my book, Midnight Reflections

Chapter One

Lyle Brooks liked jogging late at night when everyone else was home watching TV or getting ready for bed. It was so much quieter than during the day and he found it peaceful. Tonight, the only sound to break the silence was the rhythmic noise of his feet pounding on the stone path. The air seemed fresher, crisper in the darkness, and it always relaxed him. Even after the most stressful of days, jogging still… Continue

Have You Hugged An Editor Lately?

It takes talent, patience and a skilled editor to make a good book great. This is a friendly reminder in an age of POD and the “you can’t get it out there fast enough” attitude. Don’t let the enthusiasm to see your name in print allow you to sidestep these three elements. Getting it out there fast might satisfy your ego, but the last time I checked, egos don’t buy books.

Here you are, two years of your life spent compiling the pages of your first novel. Think about all the research… Continue

Photo of Tilly With Her Book.

At long last I've managed to get Tilly to agree to pose for a photo with a copy of Tilly's Tale.

Here she is, seated in my office chair of course, from where the book was written. Tilly's Tale is available from the following sources:

Tilly’s Tale

Tilly is a small, scruffy terrier. When her master dies she is taken from his home by the old man’s son, who instead of looking after her, throws the little dog out into…

Splinters On The Carpenter's Floor

Praise you Lord God, yes it's me. Do you remember my voice? Have you been able to see? I never have asked for a single thing to straighten out this screwed up life, to take me back under your wing. It's been years dear God and where have I been....living it up, wallowing in sin. I laid down at night and never gave you a second thought, forgetting Calvary and the suffering that it brought. www.CreationsCarpenter.com

You Must Tell Your Story

By Gary Kliewer, on December 4th, 2009

You must tell your story. For that cause to which you have made a commitment, your perspective is unique; if you do not share it, the world will not have it. You alone employ the life experiences that guide your skills, making your contribution literally priceless to the rest of us.

Your voice is also yours alone. You can and should emulate heroes, learn from masters, and borrow insights to carry them forward into applications. But no… Continue

My second book

I have written several books, but only one is out. A Case Of Murder was published in 2008, and it is the first in a series of books about private investigator Jasmine Bennett. After A Case Of Murder was published, I immediately went to work on writing the second book in the series. I've named it Her Deadly Affair. Once it was finished, I sent it out to several agents. Nobody was biting, but I'm determined to keep trying. While sending out Her Deadly Affair, I started working on a book that was… Continue
