BUG-EYED MONSTER
My two-part story, Bug-Eyed Monster is now out with Planetary Stories and getting some darn good reviews, and some rather odd comments about my name! Check this out:
Review of Bug Eyed Monsers:
"I just finished reading, Bug-Eyed Monsters, by Rob Shelsky. It really was like Edmond Hamilton's stories only, I think, it was better. The Bum saved the world, the girl was saved and the… Continue

There's a great book, The New Rules of Marketing & PR, which was published a couple of years ago by Publishers Weekly. The author is David Meerman Scott. The traditonal way to marketing and PR is out the window, he says. He talks about things we are already doing on the net, but it sheds light on new things to do when you are a do-it-yourself PR and marketing person in addition to being a writer/author. Check it out.

Once again, we’re back with another episode of Bad Book Marketing. This one is about the writers state of mind. Too many writers make the following mistakes and I believe it’s mental:
1)Thinking that marketing is the publishers job.
2) Thinking that it is smart to market after your book has been written.
3) Thinking that marketing and selling are the same thing.
4) Thinking that people are interested in your book.
5) Thinking they come…

I have two books that are published and I want to market them. My first book, "Mind Full of Scorpions" is a journey through severe mental illness and my second book is "Daily Meditations With Your Cat" which is an inspirational book centered around sages, saints, sinners, hymn writers, poets, and of course cats. I do not have the money to put into a professional marketing package so I'm looking for inexpensive or fee methods to do some kick ass marketing. I need to generate royalties from my…

Are you a published author? Do you belong to a group? Do other published authors belong to the same group? Does your local news media pay any attention to their local authors or just the ones on the best seller list?
Here is what we did in Las Vegas to get some local recognition.
Our paper listed the top ten best sellers in fiction and non-fiction. They did special reports on books by the authors with name recognition such as Bill Clinton; John McCain; you get the idea. First we had a…

Why is everyone talking about Twitter?
Is this just a phase or will this be the next form of interaction to replace our blogs?
Today, many media social networkers are twalking or twyping with a form of speech impediment. But this is no speech impediment…this is the new world of Twitter.

Twitter is a VERY popular FREE micro-social network. A service for friends, family, and…

If you’ve written a book and are looking to go in to print, then consider ‘podding’ with a publisher who will show you how to make money-selling books online.
‘Podding’ means teaming up with one of the new breed of ‘print-on-demand’ publishers like
DragonCub, who can take a manuscript, edit and format the content quickly and efficiently and have your book ready to print and ship as soon as an order comes in.

“Procrastination is the ultimate laziness,” said Dr Johnson. He wasn’t kidding. So stop procrastinating and write that book. Plan the story first. Ten chapters should suffice for a short story or novel. More chapters can be added later. Draft a rough outline of each chapter in four to five lines. Only jot down the key elements. This provides a useful starting point to work from.
Develop a sales pitch/blurb to the editor to promote the story. This adds impetus to story writing and…

Expressions like co-operative publishing, joint venture publishing, subsidy publishing, and self-publishing are misleading to say the least. They all mean the same thing, ‘vanity’ publishing. Yet scores of small publishers advertise their services on the web. Some publishers go to great lengths to conceal from the author, all the costs involved, which suddenly escalate half way through production of a book.
There are good vanity publishers just as there are bad. How does an author…

DIY publishing is now considered trendy as opposed to thirty years ago, when mainstream publishers invited new and unknown authors along to preview prospective works.
Assuming an author has X number of books printed either through a vanity publisher or even a small press, the next step is to get the book out there, to be read. Take time to decide the best strategy.
• Identify the target audience, age, income, career and residential location of prospective readers.
•…

Instead of stacking rejection slips by touting your manuscript around agents and traditional publishing houses, a podding agreement will let a publisher take your manuscript, edit and format the text ready for firing out paperback or hardback copies as soon as the orders come in.
DragonCub will also help with marketing the book, but because DragonCub cuts the overheads, you earn a bigger royalty on each sale.
You can also help…

This is a list of things that you can do to market your book online. It will be helpful to print it out and tick off a few items each day.
1. Setup a blog
2. Write out a press-release and distribute the press-release (www.prweb.com)
3. Become active on Amazon.com (create a full profile and link to your blog-feed)
4. Create a book-extract (be generous with the number of pages you share - at least 30 pages)
5. Make a book-widget out of your book-extract and use it…
