Lightningsource

Phew !  What a nightmare !   In their defence I will say that they specify perfectly clearly right at the start that their system is for publishers, professionals and experts on the internet - not for the likes of me.  I have managed to wade through it successfully, but it has taken weeks of hard work and the worse part of it all is the lack of cooperation from my so-called "Publishing consultant".  Be warned - this is not a publishing consultant, just an office girl, and if you are not…

Another independent, local bookstore has the book!

I managed to cross state lines and get another book into an indie bookstore! If you're in Mississippi go and check out Bay Books on Main street. The owner is very accomodating and she has two very cool cats that take up residence inside. Most importantly, you can get a copy of I Wandered from New Orleans right off the shelf! In real live bookstores in New Orleans, Mississippi and Atlanta! It's too bad that poetry is mostly disregarded by people as being too complicated and vague.…

My books are on New Orleans bookstore shelves!! My take on Parasol's

Had a great day today! I first sent off three books that are on their way to Charis Books and More in Little Five Points, Atlanta. Then we drove down to New Orleans to hit some of the indie bookstores to see if I could get I Wandered from New Orleans onto some real bookstore shelves. It was a great success! Some books were bought outright, some were placed on consignment. Brilliant day! So, for my NOLA peeps and pops who want to check it out firsthand and pick up a…

When standing at the crossroads of your literary career...I hope you find courage...and inspiration...

(Excerpt from my blog segment: The Quest of the Independent Author.)

There comes a time in everyone's life when we find ourselves standing at critical crossroads of our existence. Movies have been made, stories have been written and poems and songs are sung to romanticize this symbolic event that is not partial to one individual over the other. No matter what your present circumstance, your financial, ethnic, political or even spiritual background may be, you will come to an… Continue

If you self-publish your book are you a published author?

I read an interesting blog post today that states "First and foremost, a self-published novel does not a published author make." I find that statement most disturbing. It goes on to talk about the expectations of the author. If one just wants to put their novel out for a few friends then it is okay to use a vanity press. But you won't ever sell a "zillion" books. She also… Continue
