Please check out my latest short story, "Another Brick in the Wall", on slapastory.com. It is a short story competition, so if you like the story, I'd appreciate a vote. In any event, I'd really like to hear what you have to say, good or bad. I am still new to the short story form, so I am gratefull for all input.
Thanks and enjoy!

Truthfully writing comes really easily to me. I hardly ever have writers block and I hardly run out of idea. But I think that’s just me, because my friends seem to not have this ability what so ever so I decided to write this up.
With beginning to right a book, a fiction mind you, there is always a issue. It doesn’t matter weather you like to write horror, sci-fi, action, drama or even fantasy. (Or if you weird like me, you’ll try to blend the genres in order to make something new)…

I have a book review up on the
Small Press Blog today of "What Writers Need to Know About Publishing" by Jerry D. Simmons. I found it a good and helpful read and I highly recommend it. I make the point that this is the book you should read before you write your book.
You can read it… Continue

After being sick the last week or so, I've missed celebrating the UK release of my Edwardian historical, Woodland Daughter!
This is the first book I've written set in the early Edwardian era of England and I thoroughly enjoyed writing it.
Another 'first' for me is writing a book where the heroine is married and a mother at the start of the book, that made a wonderful change for me.
Woodland Daughter is only available in hardback, but it…

Writing is a job - an atypical job - but still a job. I will stop at 5 p.m., just like any 9 to 5 worker. That's the only way the work gets don.
The advantage is that I am in my own house, sitting at the dining room table, wearing shorts and a T-shirt. And since it is the end of the day and I am doing routine tasks, I have been watching Oprah.
This morning I worked on the final rewrites for my novel,
The Gate House. I finished the actual writing almost two years ago. Believe me…

Many of us belong to several book and discussion groups, and the benefit to that is that we get to hear from authors and experts in a wide variety of fields. This message came to me from David Montgomery, who writes about books for several major publications. According to the message he sat in on a talk given by bestselling thriller writer Joseph Finder the topic of which was "The Six Biggest Mistakes Even Bestselling Writers Make." It’s also worth noting that when I shared this with my editor…

Which genre any writer chooses to operate in is dependent on the genre they enjoy. I write predominately in the mystery/detective genre because I am such a big fan of Robert B. Parker’s Spenser and Jessie Stone, Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, and Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe. But it is a great exercise for the good writer to able to write across genres even though he may never have the opportunity to use this versatility. Many stories have the ability to cross or mix genres, so that a…

Most big publishers won’t accept or even look at unsolicited or unrepresented manuscripts. According to many experts in the field, the best way to get a major publishing house to read your work is to work through a literary agent. But, before approaching an agent to represent you, you should finalize the presentation of your book. Remember the old adage that you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Nowhere is this more important to the new writer than at this stage of the…

"Do I have what it takes to become an author?" If someone were to ask me that question, I’d have to say I have no idea. The simple fact is every person has a story, but not every person knows how to tell it. In my humble opinion, it takes a special breed of person to become an “Author” with a big A. That would be the type of person who actually writes and finishes that novel, or book of poetry, or even that book of short stories, and see it all the way to publication. The following is a list of…

I just finished writing the first draft of VEXING THE VISCOUNT, the manuscript that's due to my editor later this summer. I know what you're thinking. "Big Whoop! It's just a first draft." For me, typing THE END is a big deal because of how I write a book.
I'm mostly a linear writer. Once I have a fully developed idea of the plot points and the characters solidly in my head, I start on the first chapter and write the story straight through in order. I sneak back from time to time to…
