Paul Guthrie to start new Sci-Fi series!

Trestle Press is pleased and proud to announce a new Sci-Fi digital short story series to be launched soon by Paul Guthrie. Here are the details and a little bit on the author:

“Unholy Magic” is a cycle of stories and novels about ordinary people with the talent of working magic. Perhaps everyone has this talent to some degree – it’s difficult to say, because theirs is a world where the monopoly on magic is claimed by religions. A world where unsanctioned magic is…

International Casting Call for Noir/Hard –Boiled Authors for a new Anthology Series to be produced by Trestle Press

Yesterday, October 10,2011, I had Paul D. Brazill as my scheduled guest on the G-Zone, my Blogtalk Radio Show. B.R. Stateham was nice enough to help me co-host; it was really fun. In the midst of the interview these two great noir/hard-boiled authors came up with an idea: Why not produce a new Anthology series gathering the best noir/hard-boiled authors the world over? Is noir the same in Levittown,Pa. as it is in Moscow? Hard-boiled fiction, do they tell the same story in Liverpool as they…

Alexandrea Weis "The Keeper of The Dead"

There are times when I get to read something that as a reader I have a level of expectation based on the author, their reputation, and their past work. All of these have planted a seed in my brain pan of what is to come, at least I hope. Let’s face it, no one is perfect; some authors miss the mark, maybe they are taking a risk, stretching themselves, blah ,blah, blah.

My point in this is: I have read everything I can find by this author; she has consistently exceeded my expectations,…

Javier Sierra The Lost Angel

Do you enjoy possibly learning something while reading? I do. This novel is chock full of stuff even before you get to the first word of the story. This was the first time I have read this author; I was pretty well caught up in his style and substance. I enjoyed the original take he has on the subject matter, his plotline was nice and tight, I was pretty well captivated with his universe and timeline of events, his characters were engaging, and the read moved right along. Personally ,I found…

David P. Holmes “Loose Gravel”

Dysfunctional families, grizzled detectives, and plenty of mayhem await the readers of this roller coaster ride. Love to hate a busted up detective that has more fractures and fault lines than an old cracked, weathered paint job, complete with lead based paint. Ingestion of which could cause brain damage. I think you get the surreal picture here. Be prepared and fore warned; it is not your normal middle of the road read. Like its character, it strays off the beaten path quite a bit and takes…

Pat Lawrence "Jarred into Being"

I am always a sucker for a good collaboration. I know you only see one name here, but if you read a guest post I had up for “Pat Lawrence” recently you would know that the name is a mixture of both a husband and a wife; they are a team, a dynamic duo of sorts. “Jarred into Being” is a really good read, fast moving, engrossing, and at times captivating. The action they infuse into the story is swift and they really know how to ramp up the tension. They also make it very hard not to fall in…

HW Gruchow “Unforeseen Fears”

I am a sucker for a good mystery, especially one that contains the necessary elements. What is that for me: A good crime to solve, characters that mesh, a few twists and turns, fooling me and not allowing me to figure out the culprit or culprits in the first few pages, some nice swift action, and some witty dialogue. I probably left out a few things, but all that and more is contained in this novel. Not too bad. I suggest the read, enjoy it, and go for a ride that will provide you with some…

T. Thomas Akerman "The Safehouse"

I am going to be posting on some self- published novels for the next few posts. For some reason I like to do them in clusters. T.Thomas Akerman has produced a very moving, intense , and passion filled narrative in “The Safehouse”. This is one of the elements I look for in a work like this, the author’s raw emotions; it is one of my favorite things about self –published work. I enjoy the fact that I am enjoying not only his point of view, but it is an undistilled version of it. No one is…

Part TWO: David Hoof "Elements of a Great Horror Story"

13. Each character with his own shape, style, mannerism and speech. We should be able to identify each if we hear their voice coming out of the darkness. It’s best if each character has his or her own ‘range’ – the way they would speak, even under stress – for example, Jaws as horror has Richard Dreyfus, on being the first and only one on the boat to see the shark, relays to the others in the cabin: “We’re going to need a bigger boat.” In the Roy Scheider character’s role, this moment…

Friday-The G-Zone-Two Amish International Best-Selling Authors- Karen Anna Vogel & Beverly Lewis @ 2.30pm EST

The baseball playoffs are heating up, but I have a double header of my own planned for Friday, an Amish one, with two amazing International Best- Selling Authors-Karen Anna Vogel and Beverly Lewis. Both of these authors currently are high atop the Kindle charts, dominating, taking no prisoners. It makes me beg to ask, “What is it about this genre that draws so many readers, loyal, faithful, devoted, readers to this type of work?” Hopefully I will be able to extract that answer from my guests…

Richard Bard, author of "Brainrush", Guest Post

Two months ago my debut thriller “BRAINRUSH, a Thriller” was sitting in a drawer.  A few weeks later it was ranked #315 overall on Amazon and #18 on the Action/Adventure bestseller list.  Without the Kindle, Nook, and other eReaders that would have been impossible.

So how did it happen?  Let me start with some background.

I finished Book-1 of the series 18-months ago.  It wasn’t ready to publish yet—I needed advance reader feedback first.  So I uploaded it to Authonomy.com (a…

CQ Scafidi, author of "Time Couriers" Guest Post- "Voodoo"

VOODOO

CQ Scafidi

If you believe in the paranormal, then you just know.  Trying to explain it to people is impossible without sounding like someone who needs therapy but doesn’t keep their appointments.   Here, in a city like New Orleans, most people have a belief of some kind, be it paranormal, Roman Catholic, Voodoo, Freemasonry, Protestant, Unitarian, Jewish, Native American, etc. or usually a combination of everything, the same recipe…

Part One: David Hoof "Elements of a Great Horror Story"

David Hoof is the author of “Sharpshooter” and the soon to be released full length horror novel “Landfill”. He was nice enough to give us his thoughts on what makes a great story. After all this is the “Harbinger of Horror”

REQUIREMENTS OF GOOD HORROR

(+ ) where Landfill has this where other horror films don’t or where this feature in Landfill exceeds or surpasses its use in most other horror films.

Pat Lawrence Guest Post

Guest Post from Pat Lawrence author of Jarred Into Being

‘Pat Lawrence’ is part of the fiction. ‘Pat Lawrence’ is a pseudonym for our husband and wife writing team of PAT Adsit Burke and Daniel LAWRENCE Burke.

People often ask us, “How do you do that? How do you collaborate?”

  • Do you each write a draft and then combine them?
  • Do you write alternating chapters?
  • Does one of you write the descriptions and…

Q&A Brett Battles

 -Why this book?

I’m guessing you’re asking that because THE PULL OF GRAVITY is not a thriller like my other novels. The short answer is, if a story comes to me that is screaming to be told, I write it. The longer answer is, I love almost all genres and have had ideas that could fit into most of the. I actually started this novel before my first thriller, THE CLEANER, was sold to a publisher. Again, it was a story that just wanted to be told, and since I wasn’t yet labeled…
