BookExpo America in LA

BookExpo is lightly attended this year, but still active. Lots of things happening. The authors and publishers who are here in LA are optimistic about the coming year in book sales.

POD, ebooks, and other formats for books are becoming commonplace. Lots of new developments in this department.

The Alexa Top 150,000 -- Where Are You?

If you were to get 10 million eyeballs to see, hear, or learn about you, your book, or your website, here are a few of the things that would happen:

1. The Alexa rank for your website would jump from wherever it is to somewhere in the top 150,000 sites in the world (out of more than 150 million sites and counting).

2. You will get from 60,000 to 200,000 unique visitors to your website every month. Some months your traffic would spike to half a million to a million unique… Continue

Alive! multimedia books: Beautiful

Wow, I just discovered the Alive! eBook Network and it is beautiful and enticing. It allows you to create and sell multimedia ebooks that feature text, audio, and video.

They've already featured Dan Millman, Marc Allen, Carolyn Ellis, and others. You provide text, audio recordings, optional photos and other graphics, video (if you have some) and then they do the heavy lifting of creating the multimedia ebook plus the… Continue

The Kremer Glacier

While in Alaska for the Alaska Writers Group Conference, I discovered that there were over 100,000 glaciers in Alaska but only 700 of them had names. I asked the ranger on the boat if the one I'm pointing to below was named. He said that he didn't think so. So I named it. The Kremer Glacier.

After naming it, I asked him to let everyone on the boat know. He did. So now it is officially the Kremer Glacier. If you'd like a glacier named after you, let me know. I'm thinking of setting up… Continue

Poetry Books: Best Options

Question from Poet: I'm 15 years

old and love writing. It's my true passion. I write free verses, modern

poetry. I was just looking for a good publisher. Could you please

assist me through this? I really want to bring out new poetry to the

audience, because people seem to have forgotten poetry and go for Harry

Potter or other fiction genres. I really know I can do this, and will

try my best. I'm still writing and have around 20…

Spend Less, Tell More Stories

Seth Godin always has interesting points to make. In his post today at his blog, he made the following point, one that I've been trying to get through to people for a very long time:

"The art of marketing is not finding more money to do more marketing. It's figuring out how to tell a story that spreads with the resources you've got."

So many self-publishers and new authors want to throw money at… Continue
