Preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census show an increase in bookstore sales in November 2007 of 7.5 percent compared to November 2006. More good news is that the American Booksellers Association welcomed 115 new bookstores…

Despite all the work we put into marketing our books, little things count the most. Here are 5 ways I've seen many authors sabotage their best efforts for online sales.
[1] They don't take advantage of Amazon's programs. Amazon wants to make money off of you so they give you a lot of ideas to improve your sales. Tags, Listmania, "So You" Guides, Author Connect Blogs, and much more all were developed to help you sell more books. And don't forget to check back at least every few months…

I thought I would share with you a little experiment I am doing and let you know the results. I've been fortunate enough to attend the workshop of Derek Gehl of Internet Marketing Center, in fact, their large 2-binder training course called The Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet was one of my main sources of internet marketing training in the late 1990s…

Visit www.goodreads.com and update your author information. Do a search for your name and you will likely see a “blank” photo where your photo should be. Below it is a link to “email us if you are the author” and then they quickly set up an account for you to log in to. (They responded to my request in less than a couple of hours.) This web site seems to get their “feed” from Amazon. Good Reads describes itself as “A place where you can…

Sign up for a book swap web site and give your books away in return for book credits. Many of these web sites have a listing of “most recently added” so even if you are not a well-known author, you may just find some extra readers. I use www.paperbackswap.com . Other authors have said that they purchase books at a low cost that are a similar style to their own. When someone “buys” it, the author also includes a copy of her book for free. When…
