I've mentioned previously on
Sadie's Storylines about my next novel,
Descendants of Salem. I've also mentioned that I am located in the heart of the bible belt. I'm in a small podunk town in the heart of a bible belt whose library depends on donations for it to survive.
I went to my podunk little town's library for research on the Salem Witch Trials. Would you like to know what I found?
2 books.
One of those books was
The Crucible. Not to knock Arthur Miller, but
The Crucible isn't exactly the height of accuracy. The other book looked like something I could use, but I thought I'd try my luck online. I had already bookmarked a few pages, but none of them had the one thing I was looking for. I wanted a map comparing Salem village then to Danvers today.
I didn't find the EXACT match, but I found two maps with in depth detail on the then-now scale! I spent a lot of ink and printed them out to the point that I could lay them on top of each other and see where everything is located.
My next dream is to go to Salem/Danvers myself and walk around. I'd like to see first hand what I'll be writing about! It's just a pipe dream for now, though.
Onto more research! I've found transcripts and letters and all sorts of things online! Thank heavens for the internet!
