If you have not been under a rock in recent weeks then I am sure that you have heard about a growing controversy in this country that have come to the forefront do to the comments of Dona Amus. The controversy involves mostly people of African decent who have been very vocal about their opposition and come out very strongly on the use of words that usually have a negative and stereo typical connotation to them. I personally support all of the efforts being made on this issue because words have a spirit that can be good or bad and because we are all spiritual being we have to monitor the words that we use. The outrage of the African decent community was just not geared to Don Amus because of his obviously lack of judgment. The African decent community has come out equally as strong against members of its own community for the use of words that have a negative and stereo typical connotation to them. So far the biggest offenders have been rap artist and members of the rap community. There is great displeasure over the words that many rappers use in their music. Record company executives and video directors have also been blasted for their role in the production and distribution of rap music.

Many of the rappers augment has been that they write music that talk about their struggles in life and the things that they are familiar with. I personally don’t have a problem with anyone writing music that reflects their struggles and what is going on in their life. The problem I have is with music that uses words that have a negative and stereo typical connotation to them. These words help foster racial and stereotypical views that are a problem for many minorities in this country. We live in a world in which many people form conclusions about a whole segment of our population based on the actions of a few of those people. In an effort to try and curtail the innate quality that we as humans being have to form conclusion about a whole population we need to enforce laws that prohibit the use of words that have a negative and stereotypical connotation to them from being on any public domain. The words that people decide to use in private are their business. The words that people use on the public domain is all of our business.
