Obviously, I am no 'Michael Johnson', but I do know what it feels like to be a champion. I started playing baseball at age four, football at age
six, basketball at age eight, and running track at age twelve. Here
and there, I managed to squeeze in bowling, swimming, tennis, and
martial arts. In each one of these forms of athletics &
recreation, at some point, I and/or my teammates were crowned
champion(s). Although athleticism proved to be major factors in
these physical endeavors, it was mental toughness and, on the
'fly'
, creativity that always separated average athletes from
all-stars, and all-stars from champions. No matter what level of
play (amateur, semi-pro, or professional) the energy of champion
vibrates on extremely high frequency levels. As a coach/athletic
skills trainer, recognizing the spiritual-mental factors in
sports & recreation, I always make developing an athletes
mental/spiritual powers an essential part of a customized training
program. The most critical element in transforming average athletes
into all-stars and champions is helping individuals realize, and
accept mentally, that they are champions. Regardless of their
particular skill level(s) in the present moment, it is in the
practice of the present moment that the spirit gives permission to
the mind – that a champion lives within and will, therefore
