Hi Jo. I would be pleased to join your group of friends. My company, Hope Press has been involved in books about childhood behavioral problems such as ADHD, Tourette Syndrome and others. My latest book, "Did Man Create God?" is a new venue, still about human behavior but looks into our spiritual rather than our misbehaving side. Good luck with your publishing ventures.
Hi Jo and thank you for inviting me into your circle of friends. Good luck on your books! You are never too old to accomplish your hearts desire!
You take care and keep on writing!

Dear Jo,
I just read the first chapter of For Love of Teddy. I enjoyed reading it and applaud your reason for writing it. I am a little behind you. I just published my first novel, The Pastor's Inferno, at age 65. I published a book of reflections and a memoir before that. My mission is to help readers consider their lives and their impact on others. I am currently preparing for publication my second novel about marriage, Marital Property. I started a book for teens, Commonsense Wisdom for Teens, and plan to get back to work on it as soon as I finish with my novel. I have interviewed some teens about their reflections on various aspects of their lives but am looking for more. I wondered if you might come across teens who would like to have their stories in my book as you distribute your book. What do you think about this idea?
I'm glad to count you among my on-line friends and am looking forward to sharing our literary journeys.
Joe
Thanks for adding me a s a friend. I am happy to hear you have a publishing contract for your book. I am totally self-publishing and self-marketing my book, so that I can include the coupon for a free yoga class in my book ( I don't think most publishers would let me do this).
If you would like to get the free coupon and a list of yoga studios honoring the coupon, go to www.funnypath.com. You can also read a couple of chapters from my book there. Best wishes, Deborah
I am pleased to be your friend. I signed up with BMN a few days ago and haven't put in the time to really "know" it. But would love you as my friend also. I will visit your website and will be back in touch.
Hi, Jo:
Thanks for adding me on as a friend. I live in upstate SC and am doing rewrites on my first book, a mystery/suspense novel. I have my second book started, which is a spin off of my first book. I'm also looking for an agent but haven't had any luck with that as yet. I'd be interested to hear more of your experience with self-publishing. I'll be checking out your website and read what you have on your first chapter. Good luck with it!

I'm not quite sure why it didn't, but I sent a request to you to add you as my friend, Maybe that might help. I have to admit that I am not smart when it comes to figuring out computers. I read some of your mailings and Jo gave me some insights. She seems to be very knowledgeable. I'm just getting my feet wet.
HI Jo,
I read what your book was about. GO to a library and ask for a book signing. Once you do, call the newspaper in the area and have them interview you during the signing and to announce the signing. Donate an autographed book to the library.
Go to the schools and talk to the principle and ask if there are any functions coming up for you to talk about your book to the kids on drugs. Get permission to sell and autograph the books. Have the principle print out an ad that you will be there and are going to be offering your book.
You want to get to as many places as you can with kids from ten and up. It maybe fiction but it shows insight to the reality of the book. Talk about the REALITY of the abuse.
Getting known before the book comes out is important.
HI Jo,
There is a lot you can do. Start introducing yourself to radio stations and see if you can schedule an interview lost to the published date.
GO to bookstores and schedule book signing or talks about the book, call the editor of the newspaper and book an interview a week before the release.
Get your bookmarks, postcards and business cards printed by Vista Print: www.vistaprint.com). They are offering 250 free, you pay the shipping charge. So it cost you close to $6.00.
Get reviews on the book to advertise it, Reader Views (www.readerviews.com) allbooksreview (allbooksreview.com) to name a few.
Send a copy to family and friends out of state to book read for you at Border's, B&N, etc. The bookstores order them from your distributor so no one has to order them.
Get an ink signature pad with you handwritten signature for them to print on the book during the signings.
Go to book fairs and pass out your business card or make fliers off your computer.
Most importantly, get a website up or blog to add to the business cards. Authors are taken more seriously with a site. Check other authors site to see what they have on theirs.
I hope some of these ideas help you. Try to make it fun.
Thanks for the note. Book marketing is a daunting process, and authors have to create a marketing plan. This should be done before your book is out! I would advice you to read some the articles and tips that are on our website to get you started. Also, please consider advertising in our featured books section. Just click on the authors page for more details.
Try Googling for "free web site hosts" and you might find them. At the moment I can't find the list of such sites, but they are in Penny C. Sensevieri's book "Red Hot Internet Publicity." Just don't show up in the index.
Harley Sachs www.hu.mtu.edu/~hlsachs for free stuff and fun.
I hope my comments on your first chapter are helpful. As an old, retired professor of writing courses, I may be occasionally brash, but I intend no harm. ANyone interestred in my tips on writing can download "Freelance Nonfiction Articles" at www.lulu.com which has an appendix on sentence nuances that was taken from my unpublished textbook, "Writing on the Job." I might set that up for downloads if I can find the permissions to include examples I used in class. Best wishes. -=-Harley Sachs www.ghu.mtu.edu/~hlsachs where you can find free stuff and fun.
I tried your link for the sample chapter but the link failed. You might want to check it yourself.
You can expect it to take at least two years to get your book into print with a NY publisher even efter it has been accepted. It's a waiting game. I'm 77 myself and was frustrated at how long it took the new owner of the list including "Irma Quarterdeck Reports" to edit it and come out with the second edition. I think it took three years and the publisher wanted revisions done in hard copy, something I hadn't done in years, everything else being electronic.

I did get a friend request from you by email, so I don't know why the link was not there.
Best wishes,
