Hi Jo, I read your profile, you are so amazing to publish your first novel at age 69! And here I thought I was too old to get published (in my late forties!) Very inspiring, indeed. I wish you all the best with your new young adult novel. Sounds like an interesting genre to write for! Good luck!

Well, Mattoon is where I currently live. It should have said Vincennes IN as my actual hometown, but the amount of time I've lived in Mattoon IL is beginning to border on equal to the time I lived there. I have friends in the Salem area, and we even considered moving down there at one point.
Hi Jo,
I read your blog and the book sounds very special. Could be a tool for getting through to teens about drugs. I worry about 2 of my grandkids. They are in with a strange crowd, etc. I would have posted to your blog but not registered there and didn't want to take time this a.m. to sign up.
Keep on keeping up!

Hi, Jo,
Marketing was a whole new ballgame for me, too! Luckily, I had been a Toastmaster for a number of years and was not afraid of speaking in public.
Here are some things that really helped me. Have a Media Release that you can fax to book stores and radio stations. Radio stations really need to fill air time and an interesting book could lead to a great interview. I did an interview on Your Estate Matters in Albuquerque for my Take Charge of Your Life book. You can get a list of radio shows with the producer's name, the host's name, phone numbers, email address...everything you need. http://tinyurl.com/4shap Get a good sales pitch with a hook they can't resist! Tie your book into something that is in the news now. You have so much experience writing, it should be fairly easy to turn the creative juices on to telling people about your books.
Another way is to get your friends to host a book-signing party for you--like a Tupperware party - only, it's your book! I have a special on my two book-signing products. You can read about them at www.selfpublishingbooks.net and www.book-tour-guide.com To go right to the special and get both products for only $30 go to http://tinyurl.com/238wdw
You can do it! Good luck
Jo
Jo, I would be happy to read your book. As for marketing...what kind of platform do you have? Are you speaking and/or doing workshops or other activities that get you in front of an audience? Good luck.
Hi, Jo.
Marketing . . . . hmmm! I'm just learning about that myself! I'm excited to think of the possibilities, but I think it just takes a lot of hard work and passion on the part of the author.
As far as looking at your book, I would be happy to. Go to my website: www.CenterForHealthyRelationships.com and my address is at the bottom of each page.
Thanks for making contact!

Hi Jo,
No, I'm not self-published, having had 2 different small publishers. The current one does quite a bit with promotion for her writers. She has many ideas that aren't expensive that I found helpful.
I would like to read you book and give you my thoughts. Promotion isn't my strong point either. I do like book signings, now that I've done a few. I've found it difficult to get my books into most book stores in my area because my publisher can't afford a 'buy-back' policy and I sure can't. Some stores will take, maybe a dozen, and if they don't sell have you take them back. I do think the subjects or genres we write in have some to do with this.

Ohhh, speaking in groups is learned!!! I learned from attending a couple of classes where I was taught how to create a 30 second sound bite, and all the way to doing a 60 minute speech. Well-worth the time and effort.
Yes, I am self-publishing. I get my books out in various ways ~ being a part of the "raw food community" I go on the forums there and have links to my site in my sig (most wont let one blatantly sell books); I also have podcasts where I send people to my site AND I mention my books; I speak at Women's groups, networking meetings, Chamber of Commerce's, etc. One woman at a networking meeting has her own group for successful women and wants to use the playbook with them so I suggested holding a playshop (2-3 hours) to get them started using them. At another networking meeting I met a woman who owns an independent bookstore and she asked why my books were not in her store and would I like to hold an "author's event". The point is, just keep putting them out there. It's the "Law of Attraction" in action. Thank you for asking.
Thanks so much for the invitation. We look forward to being part of the network!

Hi Jo. We are about the same age. Interesting, isn't it, to be plugging at another career in this time of life? I think it's great. I write romantic suspense and my newest is a romantic paranormal. So far three published. Marketing is my downfall
