As a former television news anchor who has interviewed hundreds of authors promoting their books, I think I have found a better and much more effective way to promote books using social media tools like blogs, podcasts and social networks. Welcome to this network. Your experience as a news anchor will benefit many on this site and I especially like your article about a more effective way to promote books using blogs, podcases and social networks. I am constantly finding new network organizations that I am enlisting to gain more exposure. I would be interested in hearing more about your suggestions.
Yes, using social networks to find groups within the book's potential interest area is an excellent way of marketing it. So is using Google Alerts to see who is talking about your subject.
Plug into google alerts and punch in your subject and you will get all info regarding the subject...I think so anyway...I just entered it today...Always something new and exciting..carol
The answer depends on the type of book you are promoting, your target market of readers and the TV news program you want to appear on.
If you would like to tell me more about your book and the type of coverage you are looking for, perhaps I can give you a more specific answer. But please remember, I am providing publicity and promotion as a service.
One thing to keep in mind. Know that for local TV news affiliates across the country, many are looking to fill time during 2 hour morning news programs. Many times producers are having difficulty filling that time with compelling content, because they have limited staff and resources. Contacting that producer with a brief personal pitch about your book, and why you should be on the program is the first step, but you must have a hook or angle, or some type of local tie-in.
Its all about knowing who the producer is, knowing how to contact them and pitching them is just the right way. Because I've been in the media for 15 years and have worked with producers, I know how to do it.
And again, don't forget about the other "new media" and "social media' tools that are available to us as well. These tools essentially allow you to become your own "media outlet".
