The Orphan Boy, A Love Affair with Mining
The story of the Orphan Boy Mine began in the 1880's when the American West was young. These gold rush days were Colorado's Glory Days when a 100,000 people came seeking their fortunes in the mineral rich Colorado Rocky Mountains. Their efforts can still be seen in the many small mine dumps that dot virtually every high peak in the state.
One of these small mines, the Orphan Boy, was re-opened and operated by my Dad, a member of "The Greatest Generation" after World War II. This book tells the story of his "Love Affair with Mining."
These mines, just like the famed Colorado ghost towns, all have a story to tell. This is the story of one such mine and the lives that it impacted.
