Paypal Censorship Update from Smashwords

This message was sent to me from Smashwords - a site where I sell my books and ebooks. Everyone has a right to read what they want to, and every author the right to write the genre that suits them. Those that don't care for books with adult content don't buy them. That's their choice. I fit in the don't buy column and mention that often in my blogs. Those who like the stories I write can attest to the fact my books don't have adult content.…

Historical fiction and the little things that make it real: Setting I

To celebrate the Kindle and Nook versions of my novel, I’m going to talk about setting for a moment. When researching for my novel Why Aren’t You Sweet Like Me? which is based on a true story, I had a need to be as historically accurate as possible. That being said, I wanted to make sure that even the smallest details were not just thrown in; I needed them to have a purpose as well. While writing, I knew that there are people still alive…

Until Forever - a review

Until Forever by Darlene Shortridge is a deeply emotional story about second chances and learning to forgive. From the outset, Jessi and Mark Jensen’s marriage is rocky at best. Jessi comes across as an over anxious control freak, while her husband Mark is selfish, immature and has a drinking problem. With that kind of foundation, is it any wonder that Jessi coddles their only child and treats Mark like an adolescent rather than an equal member of the relationship? Then…

Numbers torture me

I just checked KDP unit sales and I sold nine books yesterday. Four in the U.S. and five in the U.K. Three months ago, I’d be thrilled at those numbers, but after the last two months of relatively heavy sales, these seem kind of low. Now, my depression will set in until those numbers get back up into the twenties. Lately, I’ve noticed a building obsession with checking my sales throughout the day. Having the ability to see books downloaded in real time is an amazing tool for keeping track…

Back to Work

I've completed chapter five of the Thrust and thanks to my editor Diane Reynolds I don't have to worry about mispelled words, funky sentences, or any other issues I may have typed up. Writers need their work edited before publishing, we all know the benefits. The question is when do you send your work off to the editor, when its completed or a few chapters at a time? The benefit of working with Diane is that she will accept my first five chapters, edit and return it for my review. I am a…

Carried Away by a Six-Pound Book

Since I have too many books and am getting on in years, I thought it would be a good idea to buy  a Kindle reader.  Moving into an apartment or a retirement home would be easier if I could carry up to 1400 books with me in my purse or one…

Phoenix Community Care Fostering and Care for Refugees

PCC Fostering and care for Refugees.

Pauline was watching the news one day when she saw a clip about a Norwegian ship which had picked up a crowd of drowning refugees off the coast of Australia.  The Australian government at the time would not allow them to land and some of them died.

Pauline was very angry about the injustice of it all and wanted to do something about it. To cut a long story short out of that event, with the support of Rainbow…

Teens are often resilient and can overcome many obstacles that adults would not. A serious illness might send an adult into a terrible tailspin, some teens or kids scared to death and afraid and others determined not to let it overpower their lives. The kids in Harper’s Ferry were not any different than kids anywhere else except for one thing. They loved sports always competed but never won.…

True Confessions- An Author's Thoughts

I confess, I am still in the dark when it comes to marketing. I am tweeting my little heart out, creating videos, sending releases to the paper, talking on facebook...and I still don't really know if any of it is making a difference.

I confess, it does bother me that the people I know personally don't buy my book. Othe authors tell me not to let it bother me, and I try. I really do. But if my friends don't support the book, why should strangers? (But I do think my fellow…
