Methodist Church Women's Conference Book Sale

April 21, 2012 I was invited to attend the Women of Peace United Methodist Parish New Life Conference at the Methodist Church in Van Horne, Iowa. It was a fun day of food and fellowship with a cheerful Spring feel. The table coverings and decorations were pastels for spring. I won one of the decorations by picking up one of the few pink napkin in the stack when I was…

Q&A with Patricia Gligor

Let’s start with the basics. Where did you grow up? Did your childhood contribute to your desire to be a writer? If so, how?

I grew up on the west side of Cincinnati. When I think back to my childhood, I realize it’s no wonder I became a mystery writer. My parents, younger brother and I lived in an old two-story house with all kinds of…

Evolving as a Writer

By Sheila L. Jackson

No writer was born with a magical pad and pen in his or her hand that guaranteed them a bestseller. For most, it has taken years to hone their craft on the road towards becoming an award winning novelist. Evolving as a writer takes dedication, hard work, and an eagerness to learn all there is to know about the art of writing.

Several ways to evolve as a writer:

1.     …

In The Name of Jesus

By Sheila L. Jackson

Preachers, teachers, and missionaries of the gospel are to share the good news of Christ to the lost. But what if they are responsible for turning those who look to them for spiritual guidance away from Him?…

How Do You See Yourself?

By Sheila L. Jackson

If you would just take a moment out of your busy schedule to watch

and observe the people that you come in contact with from day to day, you

might see that many of them are suffering from depression, an identity

crisis, and/or weight issues. You do not have to be a psychologist to realize

that…

Marinda Asks The Question: M is for MP3, but where do I shelve it?

Marinda Askes: M is for MP3, but where do I shelve it??

Hi there!

The store has been live for a month and it has been an interesting four

weeks. It seems that people don’t quite know what to make of South African

audio books in downloadable format.

The response from readers who have browsed our digital shop has ranged from

“Finally! Here you are. South African audio books!”  to “OK. So when do

you post my CD?” or even to “So…

Touching base regarding my kick starter project

Hi everyone I hope you are all having a amazing weekend. I checked my kick starter project athttp://www.kickstarter.com/projects/moordragonarts/ashley-and-daniyyels-amazing-adventure

and noticed that there are only four backers for a tool of $360.00, this is a far cry from the goal that I set to get my book and its positive and inspirational message out to as many children as possible.

The message in the first book is " it doesn't matter how small you are or how pig the…

Find Your Voice - Marinda Botha

Finding your voice. That does sound so euphoric, but it has a good ring to

it. Take the example below:

Like most actors living in London, I attended classes at the Actor’s

Centre, in an attempt to hone my skills. I especially liked the one-on-one

sessions with a vocal coach. My vocal coach was always extremely

interested in my accent as she didn’t meet many South African actors. She

said she had never had an Afrikaans student at all. Well…

When Art Imitates Life

When Art Imitates Life

By Dr. Maxine Thompson

http://www.maxinethompson.com

http://www.maxinethompsonbooks.com

According to Wikipedia, The quote, “Art imitates Life” “has its most notable proponent in Oscar Wilde, who held in his 1889 essay The Decay of Lying that ‘Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life’.”

As an African American, I see things differently. I’ve…

Olivia Strikes Again

That's right. Episode 3 is here. Like I said before, Olivia has such a great voice as an author. As I encourage her to explore and develop it, it might take a little longer to get these stories done. With her imagination and charm, I think it is worth the wait.

Creepiest ever!

I love the new cover for my Kindle version of FROSTPROOF. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m slowly taking back all my rights to my paperbacks and republishing only electronically. I believe the traditional book is going the way of CD’s and I’m excited to be at the threshold of this new medium. With my seventh novel soon to be published electronically, I’ve now got more than half of my books out there for the entire world to purchase. It’s a pretty cool feeling. Once I send the new FROSTPROOF off…

Simple Techniques For Writing an Introduction to Your Story by Katrina Parker Williams

Reprint with permission from author, Katrina Parker Williams

Writers struggle with how to write the introduction to a story. If the introduction is dull and unexciting, the reader is apt to put it down, never to even read the second paragraph. If the introduction is engaging and interesting, the reader will want to read further to see what will happen next in…

Pre-Production Underway....Whew!

Well, it's finally arrived...the reality of actually knowing "Powers Not Delegated" is going to be published.  I'm like the dog that chased the car, caught it and now overwhelmed with what to do with it.  But, as a first time fiction author  I'm sure I'll muddle through.

I'm quite sure most of who have been through this lean back and think, "This guy ain't got a clue what he's in for."  After the pre-production conference call, I would have to agree.…
