Poem: True Contentment

Know God and know peace,

leaning not on your own understanding.

Earthly troubles will never cease -

Use faith to quell the inner longing.

Regardless of your circumstance,

you are empowered to be an overcomer.

Rejoice in the midst of difficulties;

in His Presence, find holy favor.

He has promised to supply our needs!

Things can not fill the hole of one’s heart.

Cleanse your mind with His Word;

desire Truth that only Jehovah can…

REVIEW DARREN SAINT'S: A GOOD DAY. BY AJ HAYES

Years ago I was diving at Martinique in the French Carribean. At place called Diamond Rock. I was at about 130 feet, just loafing along looking at the broken coral, sand and sea grass bottom when something caught my eye. At that depth, all color has for the most part vanished to be replaced with the ocean's endless monochrome blues, grays and blacks.

But suddenly in the midst of all the subdued pallet,  I was hit square in the eyes by a spot of indescribably brilliant, neon…

Creative Press Releases

Where did this guy come from? My publisher has been nagging me about press releases. So, we got creative.

Depending on genre, you can use snippets from your books to generate press releases. In my genre - techno-thrillers - it is perhaps easier than for say a genre such as literary fiction. We have a few press releases along the lines that follow:

Review for Making Plans, Making Memories

British author of everything from crime/noir to humor and biography, Darren Sant had some excellent things to say about the first chapter of Reprisal.

After reading Making Plans, Making Memories, Mr. Sant said, "I found Reprisal to be well written and the author’s strength seems to be in creating good characters."

The 7 Greatest Principles of Leadership-How to Create a High Performing Organization"

Introduction

The greatest principles of leadership are similar to the greatest qualities of any human being - respect for others, compassion for the state of their lives, and appreciation for their knowledge and existence.

We can do no better than honor another‘s soul, humanness and heart.

The 7 Greatest Principles of Leadership is a story about a family who, although they have individual pursuits, agree as one in their relationships with others.

They…

Soothing Techniques For Self-Care

As an empowerment coach and life educator, I teach families about the importance of self-soothing rituals and calming techniques for each member of the family. If you have been a parent, you will remember the methods you developed to sooth a fretful baby or toddler.  You knew what worked and what would just make the child more upset.

Coping With Stress

When you are upset, you also need to have an arsenal of effective ways to calm yourself down and improving your mood.…

3 Ways to Become a Home Maker – A Refuge from the World

Home is where your heart is safe. It is the one place you can relax and be authentic. Home is not just walls, floor and bed, but the intangible aspects of your environment that make you feel welcome and blessed. It is, or should be, a refuge from the world.

I am not going to write much about home because it is such a sacred and personal sanctuary. But I will encourage and empower you to be a homemaker, to make a home wherever you may be sleeping and residing.

3 Ways to Rest…

Overcome Fear-Learn Optimism

Learned Optimism-Overcome Fear

Perhaps, like many others in the world, you began to have doubts and fears as your constant thoughts. You may have given up hope for a brighter future and an easier daily life.

You may feel a darkness or shadow when you are associating with negative people and events. Your thoughts and your body feel heavy, sluggish and slow to make decisions.

Negative Pushes Down, Positive Pulls Up…

Goodreads, The G-ZONE and the stuff I read

I have been getting some questions lately about my Goodreads account: Why do some of the novels in your “currently reading” area stay there for so long? Pretty simple really: I don’t like to post on a novel until after I interview the author. I have been fortunate to have had on some great guests on my blogtalk show The G-ZONE, just incredible awesome people and interviews. I am fortunate that many of them have such a great time they want to return. I also am fortunate to make some new…

New book promo week

Today is the day I started my promo/marketing for DROP OUT. Already logged up 4 sales (woo hoo). I discovered a great link on Goodreads that takes you to people who are looking for book recommendations. Some people just tell you what books they've read and that they're looking for something similiar, and some people actually describe the type of book they want to read. This is awesome because I have six different books that I can suggest. And the best part, there are at least 30,000 of these…

Brad Thor Full Black

I wanted to start the week off with this; it sizzles. I have been a Brad Thor fan since his first novel and have enjoyed his work ever since. Apparently there are many others like me out there; his popularity just seems to soar with each new novel. “Full Black” is a major political statement and commentary on our way of life. Do I agree with all of it? Hey I was taught not to discuss politics and religion when I am talking to friends so I am staying away from that. The novel was a barnburner…

Who's for an Ode to Aleja?

Thanks for the kind welcome Aleja.  Wow, your story's amazing, and your character even moreso.

It's a pleasure to know you.  Have you written your story down?  My upbringing wasn't idyllic but

yours makes it look pretty tame by comparison.   But as you'd know by now, some of us put our

hands up for bigger challenges in life than others. You went for the big one, and came through just fine.

I love your poetry, and the good use you make of your time helping…

Bravo for Dr. Maxine Thompson's Novel, LA Blues: Book Review by Suzetta Perkins

L.A. Blues is Maxine Thompson’s masterpiece. Told in first person by main character, “Z” short for Zipporah Saldono, you were witness to life in the mean streets of modern day Los Angeles with its overwhelming serving of gangs and drugs and, of course, a corrupt police department. You couldn’t help but root for “Z” with the opening scene, a young lady trying to move past her generational curse by bettering herself but is almost raped in an environment that had claimed her family, although…
