Something on my Mind

You know how you get when you haven’t had something in a while. You start thinking about it all the time. Wondering, how will I get that? When will I get that?

That thing becomes an obsession.

I want it. No, I need it.

Luckily for authors, when we want something, all we have to do is write about it. Once the words are on the page, they are as good as real to us. That desire is fulfilled. We have gotten that thing we…

A Triangle of Blessings: Amish, Writing, and Readers

A guest post from Sarah Price

I was first introduced to the Amish when I was only eight years old. It was my grandparents who took me to Lancaster County, PA. I sat between them on the front seat of their Cadillac, bouncing up and down with excitement as we passed each horse and buggy.

My grandparents came from a long line of strict Old…

He Never Said It Would Be Easy

HE NEVER SAID IT WOULD BE EASY

Acts of kindness done for someone from the goodness of your heart.

Just one word of gratitude and a pat on the shoulder to let them know your caring means a lot.

Sacrificing of your time to bless someone that’s very lonely, with your being there for them.

Listening to the struggles a friend is dealing with and…

Colours In Blackness - a review

This YA novel reminded me a bit of the Marvel ‘X-Men’ series in that it’s about a group of ‘gifted’ teens who are sent to a special school to help them learn to hone their powers. The main character, Laura, suffers from terrible migraine headaches and during one of these episodes she sees a horrific vision which then comes to pass. Apparently she can predict the future and so she is sent to the school so that she can learn to control her visions and potentially avert disasters from…

You're the One That I Want!

The title song of Olivia Newton-John's album Physical was the #1 hit on the billboard charts in 1981.

But that brought her little comfort. Two deadly stalkers were after her.

One killed a dog and sent its teeth to another celebrity.

In 1978 Olivia had starred with John Travolta in the blockbuster hit movie, Grease. Two songs from the film became huge hits: Hopelessly Devoted To You, and You're The One That I Want.

Ralph Nau decided Olivia was the one that he…

A Torn Page - The 2012 Spring Short Fiction Anthology

A Torn Page – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish

One of the best parts of reading short stories is that it’s like reading ‘a whole bunch’ of books in one.  I’ve always loved the fact that I can involve myself in so many stories in such a short period of time and A Torn…

Writer’s impressing

I watched a funny Family Guy episode last night (actually, I think they’re all funny) about Brian the dog wondering if he should marry an older woman. He goes out to a bar and tries to pick up this really pretty cartoon girl. When all of his pick-up lines fail he finally says to her in desperation, “You know, I wrote a book.” And her response, “Let’s both go into the bathroom.” Haha! No, seriously. Why does someone write? If you ask a sixteen-year-old male musician why he wants to be a rock…

A GIFT TO MANKIND.....A KING WHO WALKED AMONGST US

A GIFT TO MAKIND…. A KING WHO WALKED AMONG US

Spoken of by the prophets 2,000 years before his birth.  Being sent to a lost and dying world to set right what Adam had failed to do.  A plan by Almighty God to restore your relationship with himself.  The ’cornerstone’ which would become the stumbling block to many.…

The Vengeance Squad

Chris McCowan, a computer science professor, witnesses the brutal murder of his finance by what appears to be a terrorist group. As he tries to come to grips with his loss, he turns his back on his faith, becoming obsessed with a need to exact revenge on the perpetrators, and thus the ‘Vengeance Squad’ is born. With the help of one of his students - a wheelchair bound ex-con, and a matronly librarian who also happens to have cash and clout with various government agencies, Chris and Co. set…

Triumph through Trials - a review

Triumph Through Trial – a Story of Renewal by Theresa Franklin follows the day to day life of a seemingly happy couple on the cusp of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. On the surface, they appear to have the ideal marriage and family, but this is far from reality. Even though they are Christians they are not necessarily happy or even satisfied with life. So what should they do? Much of the book reads like a diary of day to day living and a lot of the conflict centers around their…

Book Review: Call Me Tuesday, by Leigh Byrne

A mother suffering from mental illness.

A little sweet girl who wants nothing more than her mother’s love.

Family members who turn their backs to the blatant horror that is staring them in the face.

Call Me Tuesday was a tough book to read. Based on true events, it is a fictionalized story of what really happened to author Leigh Byrne while…

Believing In the message of The Time Of My Life

I had the opportunity to see my oldest son realize a dream this weekend. For six years he has been focused on accomplishing one thing: to run at the collegiate level. Friday night I got to watch him run his first college race. It was the first time he had run that distance in a race- an 8K (about 5 miles) and it was 92 degrees at race time. He has been running in the mountains of North Carolina and the high there has been in the 70s. He also was coming off a bout with tendonitus (as we live…

Perilous Shadows - a review

Nike Chillemi has done it again in PERILOUS SHADOWS, the third book in her Sanctuary Point Series. This page turning ‘who-dunnit’ is another home-run for the self proclaimed ‘crime-fictionista’, with plenty of action, suspense, surprises, and quirky characters. The book follows the ‘leads’ of investigative reporter and broadcaster Argus Nye, whom we’ve met as an interesting, though minor, character in the first two installments of the series. This time, his talent for sniffing out a story is…
