Comments on Self Publishing Article - New York Times

“The point may soon come when there are more people who want to write books than there are people who want to read them.”

New York Times, January 27th, 2009.

This is an opening quote from an article about self publishing in the New York Times this week by Motoko Rich about the rise in self publishing. It is true, interesting and nice to see such a well established newspaper cast a cursory eye over an area of the publishing business which has long exploded… Continue

Winnin the 5th Quarter - The Game Never Ends

THE GAME NEVER ENDS

As we approach another end to the football season 1,200 NFL players will retire just like they do every year. This number would multiply significantly if we added in the college and high school football players that will never take the field again. Football ends for every player at some point. No more Friday night lights, no more Saturday afternoon crowds and no more TV or radio for players. Football often comes to an abrupt end that very few, if any,… Continue

New posts at Aspiring Author

At the Aspiring Author we've been discussing some of the reasons writers are aspiring authors instead of published authors.

Performance anxiety and insecurity, lack of time, lack of support, and not being honest about the quality of the work were just some of the reasons provided by published and aspiring authors.

We've begun to… Continue

48 hours left in the Authors Lounge Cover Design Awards

There are now just two days left in which to cast votes in The Authors Lounge Cover Art Design Awards for May 2008.

I feel privileged that 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper' was lucky enough to be nominated. The artwork for the book was created by the highly talented Deron Douglas at Double Dragon Publishing, Markham, Ontario, and, if anyone who hasn't voted yet would care to do so, I'd appreciate any frinedly votes that may come my way. Pllease visit… Continue

Latest Customer Review - A Study in Red

Here's the latest review to appear on the Amazon.com (US) site. I particularly appreciate this lady's words as she appears to be something of a Ripper student who normally doesn't read fictional works on the subject. I read her other reviews of a number of ripper books and four stars appears to be her top rating for any of them

Regards to all

Brian

A Study in Red - Top 20 Best Seller!

'A Study in Red' has this morning reached the heady heights of #16 in the Amazon.co.uk JTR bestselling listings, it's highest position yet. Yesterday it was at #41, so some serious sales have taken place in the last 24 hours to cause such a meteoric rise up the chart. I never thought my book would ever appear in a Best Seller list of any sort, so I'm more than thrilled with it's performance.

I'm delighted and amazed at such a sudden surge in interest in the novel. I know my… Continue

A Glowing Endorsement for A Study in Red

The following message has appeared on the forums at Casebook.com, one of the world's leading sites dealing with research and information on the Jack the Ripper crimes of 1888. The writer of the message is the subscriptions manager of The Whitechapel Scociety 1888, another prestigious organisation which holds regular meetings in London for the purpose of studying the Ripper crimes and Victorian London's history in general. What a wonderful review!
