It may just be that so many of the little mom & pops go bankrupt and can't pay. I know that big chains and distributors who regularly deal in large numbers are less worried about keeping the little guy happy.
I hear Borders isn't doing so well now. I wonder how much they owe.
Sure I'll join. The most recent reason that I've heard for the switch was from someone who finally sold a significant number of books to a local store, and then couldn't get them to pay for it. Actually someone told me that was the most popular reason.
Thank you for the kind compliment! I actually published the book on my own, by starting my own publishing company--Chrysalis Press--so I ended up paying for everything. It wasn't inexpensive by any means, but it did allow me complete control over the project, which was important to me.
Thanks for writing. I'm envious of your having met some of the greats, especially Messner and Whitaker. I've met Hillary a couple of times while leading treks to the Base Camp. My book was published by Pilgrims Books. They have the largest book store in Asia. It is touted by many travel guides as one of the best in the world. Everyone says it's a movie waiting to be made. I'm trying to make a connection in the film industry.
Thanks for the invite. You have been very busy!!! Congratulations on all your successes! I've had a blast self-publishing and would be happy to share in any way I can!

Thanks for the invite. We work on going green both wish self-published authors and with more traditional publishing houses. I'll be happy o join your group!
Unfortunately, the insight I have into self-publishing come from people who have thrown in the towel and gone with a traditional publisher. Apparently it's more than a full time job for a lot of people. But anything I can do to help...
I completely understand. I'm only here because of MSU, if I had had a better GPA at Amarillo College I would've gone to North Texas instead. I'm leaving the area as soon as I can when I graduate!
Thanks for the welcome and the invite. I did join the group, but I'm not self-published. Still, I just had a bookstore cancel my booksigning because they say my book is POD, which it is not. So self-published or small press--there are trials and tribulations as well as rewards.

Thanks for inviting me to join your self-publishing group, but I don't self-publish. Can authors of traditional published works join?

Thanks for the invitation. Seems you've had (and are still having) a heck of a wild ride.
Be well,
