Thank you Carolyn. I will certainly check out what you have to offer. My mother actually got me started waaaaaay back when I was a kid with "smoozies" (green smoothies); that's where I got my start although, I didn't know it at the time. Thank you for adding me to your "friends" list.

I have never really been involved in the marketing of "The Researcher's Guide..." My publisher, Genealogical Publishing in Baltimore, prohibited me from selling books in the publishing contract. However, so far, with the three editions, we have sold more than 100,000 copies. It is still the most popular textbook on the subject and is considered by many to be a classic. I will make contact with your friend.

Good luck with your "Frugal Editor" book.

Best,
Val

Thanks for accepting my invitation. I am just finishing reading your "Frugal Book Promoter"--found it very interesting and very helpful. I gave me lots of ideas, many of which I am already using.
It is a great book--thanks!

I grew up in the south part of Salt Lake valley, attended Jordan High School. I wrote another book that was first published in 1973, and now in its third edition: "The Researcher's Guide to American Genealogy." Most people don't think that is very exciting.

Very kind to remember me and my talks at BPSC. Modesty has always been a characteristic I exhibit. You're right. You'll have to train me to overcome that deficiency.

I'm looking forward to spirited discussions on this forum. Glad you're aboard. Kind regards.

We share many common acquaintances, Carolyn. I've seen you at the Book Publicists of Southern CA meetings in the past. Thanks for accepting my invitation to be a friend.

You're right, this book business is the hardest of all. You know, from your book about promotion, that writing a book is the easy part.

The world of film and video has had its own set of difficult circumstances, but I think publishing is the hardest.

Carolyn, Have loved your book! Discovered "search suggestion" about 6 months ago and have watched my books go from being #30 or so to #2 on keywords I should come up on. Am working on a series of ebooks on book marketing myself, gathering all the information I've used over the years, especially as a nonprofit director/magazine editor. Blessings and success to you!

Carolyn,
Thanks so much for all your help and advice. I'm really glad to be a part of this group as well, since everyone here has the same interests it makes it easy to find the right person to talk with about a particular problem.

Yes, use my question in your newsletter and I'll look forward to getting it! Note to others - if you don't get it yet I highly recommend signing up for Carolyn's newsletter. I get at least 3 leads each week that lead to interviews, reviews or a boost in my marketing!

Hey Carolyn,

Your book, The Frugal Book Promoter, is sitting on my desk (underneath my computer microphone -- I'm trying to make a You Tube movie to promote my book). This is such a helpful book. I've already used it dozens of times! Thanks!

I have some authors who could use your book! I will be happy to spread the word. I am also interested in gifting some to my authors. Will you send me more info on this please? Thank you!

Hello Carolyn,

I did see your book cover instead of your beatiful face. It's a little difficult not to notice (-:. Keep up the good work. I look forward to learning more about your forthcoming book in the days ahead.

Dear Patricia:

I'm glad you took my advice to join John's Book Marketing Network. The reason, of course is that this is a focused groups. There are many similar places out there that can make a difference to your book but my fear is that authors are scattering themselves too much, can't possibly pay attention to all of them and that the kinds of friends they make are nice, but their interests are way too broad to make a difference to their marketing campaign.

I have heard of this Amazon forum and hate to disappoint you but haven't joined to explore it. Do know that if you join any such forum or list serve, you will see your sales on Amazon improve if 1. your signature in your e-mail tells people how to find you, 2. you've chose a group that (sound like a broken record here!) is interested in your kind of book) and 3. you're not so shy that you don't judiciously mention your book when you think it will help others.

Here's an Amazon feature that isn't in my book 'cause it's so new. Its the feature called Help Others Find This Item and then the "Make A Search Suggestion" link beneath that. Again, it helps you target your readers (or rather, in this case, let's them find their target!).

Example: I have listed my novel, This Is the Place, under pioneers, western history, Mormons, Mitt Romney (a Mormon), Big Love (the HBO TV series), Utah, Women's literature (though it isn't only for women), tolerance and about a dozen other things that pertain to themes in the novel. It has kept this book going way past when most novels get old, forgotten and ho-hum.

And, in the meantime, try some yahoo groups. One of my favorites for learning and sharing is self-publish@yahoogroups.com. John belongs, too! (-:

BTW, Paricia. May I use your questions and name in my newsletter? I have that Q&A a la Ann Landers column. This would be perfect. If not, I'll just paraphrase. Let me know at HoJoNews@aol.com. (-:

Hi Carolyn, I've read your book, joined the Author's Coalition and receive your newsletter - so I knew you were the person to go to with my question! I read recently of an author who "joined a forum conversation at Amazon" and saw a rise in their book sales. I've been to Amazon and searched for "forums" and came up empty. Do you know how to find them? Is it there blogs he could have been talking about? Love to get your expertise on this!
Thanks also for the tip to join this networking group, it's been a wealth of information!

I'm having trouble with my outlook page right now so I can't look up her e-mail address. But if you look for her on Google (LaShaunda Hoffman) or on yahoogroups.com, I'm sure you'll find her. Her group is called SorMag. (-:
Yes, all the networking helps. Tell her I sent you. (-:

Carolyn

Thanks for the response and maybe you could help me to know what to do about this little delema I have. I would like to publish my 17 year old daugthers poems but hers need to come with a type of warning label. She wants to share them for those teens who feel the same but cannot express it in that way but we do not want anyone acting on any of the writings. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Jenifer
