BEING YOUR OWN PUBLISHER

Yeah, yeah, there's new tech parameters and a paradigm shift and all that.

But the important thing is that there are (and always have been) alternatives to writing something then trying to sell the rights to a publishing company. This group is to explore these areas of self-owned publishing biz.

Some writers have niche books, some have special needs (like texts for their seminars), some are just too entrepreneurial to sell of their own inspirations. And some just want to see something in print.

There is a spectrum these days, from big publishers through the new, small POD publishers, to using publishing services like lulu.com or iuniverse, to printing yourself and selling online, to release of downloadable mp3 "podcasts" or pdf manuals.

If you have expertise, experience, or questions in this area, don't be shy about posting them here. It's a rapidly expanding field and nobody knows everything about it, but lots of us are learning enough to do what we want to do and successfully get it across the counter.

Hello; I am getting ready to self-published August 15, 2010 - digital 1st then POD.

Book Description: How can we have less pain and suffering in our lives? Is it by avoiding or by embracing our feelings?

My book "Emotional Health: The Secret for Freedom from Drama, Trauma, & Pain" is an owners manual describing practical methods to release your physical and emotional chronic pain, suffering, and emotional distress.

This book shows you how to embrace your feelings rather than continually avoiding them. This skill once mastered brings us relief from suffering, for in-stance feeling empowered rather than victimized.

The book shows you how to become more aware of your critical, negative self-talk and how to change it to have more success and happiness rather than having your unconscious sabotage you.

This book shows you how get in touch with your wounded inner child and begin healing that emotional part of you that in the past ran your life with repeating patterns of drama and trauma.

This book shows you how to recognize your codependent patterns in abusive relationships and how to begin recovery by becoming aware of your needs and feelings and expressing them and also by practicing setting healthy personal boundaries.

Finally, this book shows you how to recognize your unconscious shadow the parts of ourselves which we dislike which healed reveal new strengths and creative abilities.

Other books in my genre of health/mind/body explore one area of improving awareness and releasing pain and suffering to improve your physical/emotional health. I, however, give you five areas with stories, techniques, and tips for greater happiness and success.

The Secret for Freedom from Drama, Trauma, & Pain takes you on a journey through the lives of over twelve people who have endured years of physical and emotional suffering. They describe how to release trapped emotions such as anger, depression, and grief from the physical body, as well as chronic physical pain. People also describe healing deep-seated wounds from sexual and mental abuse, as they encounter a growing empowerment for the first time in their lives.

Through reading and using the methods in this book your emotional health will improve, you will gain greater awareness of your emotions and how they affect your thoughts and behaviors. You will learn more about your strengths, as well as your weaknesses and how to turn them into strengths. You will increase your levels of self-esteem and confidence.

You will gain skill in taking charge and managing your emotions in healthier ways. Most important, you will have greater choices to be proactive rather than reactive as you did in the past and suffered at the mercy of emotional dramas. In addition, you gain the ability, as well as understanding to express your feelings and needs easier. You will also have and maintain healthier relationships with better communication, work with less conflict with others, and manage your own conflicts easier.

My purpose is to inspire you to heal and increase your self-awareness and happiness. If you see or feel that this book could benefit people I would appreciate your vote and support.

Greetings to all my friends,

I’m so excited. I’m finally ready to open the doors to the VAJ Buzz Club.

Not every detail is ironed out, but people are getting so anxious about it they are urging me to stop the organizing and just open it to the public!
Please excuse the batch email. Many of you have already heard murmurs, the interview Nanci Arvizu did with me , or my just own excitement about this new club.

Rather than try to summarize, allow me to just paste a press release here with links so you can check it out at your leisure:

Need to create a huge buzz about your book launch, product, course, webinar, contest, or anything else you’re promoting? Maybe you know how to market, but desperately need help to get the message directly to tens of thousands. Or maybe you don’t know how, but don’t have the $1,000s charged by promotional companies? Need best-seller status for your book? Need to spike your blog visitors and your subscription list year round?

Aggie Villanueva’s VAJ Buzz Club http://www.visualartsjunction.com/?page_id=4047 can make it all happen. Villanueva’s novel, Rightfully Mine, not only made the top #100 on Amazon (best seller status) in three categories for both for print and electronic versions, it made #2 in two categories, and #8 in another.

If she did this for her own novel, imagine what the VAJ Buzz Club can do for your book or event when club members join forces with Villanueva’s marketing savvy?

For decades peers have described Villanueva as a whirlwind that draws others into her vortex. And no wonder. She was a critically acclaimed published author at Thomas Nelson before she was 30, and commenced to found local writers’ groups, the Mid-America Fellowship of Christian Writers three –day conference, taught at nationwide writing conferences, and published numerous writing newsletters for various organizations. Over the years she has worked on professional product launches with the likes of Denise Cassino, http://www.wizardlywebdesigns.com/ a foremost Joint Venture Specialist in the area of product launches.

Aggie Villanueva is a bestselling novelist, non fiction author, and critically acclaimed photographic artist http://www.aggiev.org/represented by galleries nationwide, including Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ. http://www.xanadugallery.com/Art/ArtistGallery.asp?ArtistID=429

Aggie founded Visual Arts Junction blog February 2009 and by the end of the same year it was voted #5 at Predators & Editors in the category “Writers’ Resource, Information & News Source” for 2009. http://www.critters.org/predpoll/final_tally_writerinfo.ht

Join forces with Villanueva through the VAJ Buzz Club to promote your book, event, or product while staying well within your budget.

You can email Villanueva at myaggie2@gmail.com. Be sure to type “VAJ Buzz Club” in the subject line. Or go directly to the VAJ Buzz Club for full details. http://www.visualartsjunction.com/?page_id=4047

If you have any questions, just holler. Hoping you’re having the best day ever.

Cordelia, the publisher that you choose should be considered according to the criteria that you want for your book. There are many great publishers out there and I have done extensive research on many of them. I plan to write a book in the future compiling my research. In order to submit your manuscript to a traditional mainstream publishing company, in most cases, you will need a literary agent. I have a list of agents that specialize in all types of genres. To obtain a literary agent, you will need to submit a query letter to them as well as a synopsis and possibly a book proposal. I have accessed information about how to write a synopsis, a query letter, and a book proposal. Some may even require a cover letter as well. Once you obtain a literary agent, you are on the move. True agents do not require any money up front as they make their money through commissions of royalties in most cases. Usually %10. The agent will contact traditional mainstream publishers on your behalf. Most traditional publishers do not accept unsolicited manuscripts and require a professional literary agent to present it. There are a few traditional companies that will accept the manuscript coming directly from you. Whitmore Publishing is one of them. At any cost, DO NOT seek publishing through Publish America. I did extensive research and they take advantage of aspiring new authors and will publish just about anything sent to them. Simon and Schuster is a great publishing company to go with, but they only accept manuscripts presented by an agent. There are also wonderful self-publishing companies out there. I published my first book through AuthorHouse and they did an excellent job with my book, which is selling wonderfully at this time. If you need any additional information, please advise. View my website at http://www.thegreatx-cape.com. There are pros and cons to both types of publishing companies, and knowing these will greatly help you to decide what avenue to take when publishing your book.

Hello All, I'm new at this thing, but I'm going at it full force. I have a wonderful Romance book that I've written call LOVE STORIES the relationships of four women. I think it is one of the best, and of course everyone think that of their book, but mine IS one of the best. I'm going at this thing in a different way and I'll share more about it as things continue to progress.

What I need is a reliable publishing company that can get me a great deal, make a low pdf copy look good and get them to me fast. Who is out there that can do that for me? Only those people should contact me.

Thank you,

Cordelia
