Sorry to be away for so long

And so, she passed away. After almost 29 years living with her daughter and me, her daughter's husband, she passed away. It was Tuesday, 12 January at about 0530. She had refused to eat or drink those last three days. Her breathing was so shallow-stoking is what they call it-shallow and short. She just went to sleep and everything stopped. My wife called me to come home-I'd been at work for almost a hour-she was crying almost uncontrollably. She was alone with her mom when it happened. I got… Continue

Poem: Release the Songbird in Me

O my Lord of mercy and grace -

I desire to write more spiritual verse,

while flying on your notes of blessings

and overcoming Mankind’s sin curse.

My heart’s singing of your joy,

as You feed me by Your hand

the fullness of Thy melodic Word;

thus enabling… my ability to understand.

O Lord, give flight to my words

while I’m attuned to Your Spirit –

May Your message reach weary souls

and empower them with a Heavenly… Continue

Would You Rather Be On Purpose or Perfect?

Be perfect or be on purpose? Which one of these has been “driving your bus” so far? If you or someone you know struggles with perfectionism, can this hold you back from living on purpose?

Ask someone to walk to the moon and you’ll hear, “Not realistic,” as a response. They wouldn’t have a problem giving that answer.

Ask some people to be perfect and you can almost hear the inner and outer dialogue start — “You have no idea how hard I try to be just that.”

What… Continue

Weds tour date

I am over here at Mason's blog and we are talking writing. I love the layout theme of this blog and I think you will too. There is music, so be warned in case you are at work. I sort of enjoy listening to music as I read blogs so it didn't bother me, but wanted to let you know!

Bagging a Trophy Bull

After my post on Monday about the Death of the Slush Pile, I promised to follow that depressing bit of news with a blog about how to find an agent. So I've posted my 10 Commandments for the Agent Hunt at www.emilybryan.blogspot.com . If you have questions about finding the right agent, or something to add that might help someone else, please pop over and leave a comment!

Happy Writing,

Emily…

Fork in the Road

There comes a moment in every person’s life where we arrive at the fork in the road and a decision must be made. How do we decide on which direction to take is it right or is it left? How to Write a Memoir in Twelve Easy Steps

All of us have lived through dramatic times of ecstasy and pain. For the sensitive and sensate person, memories of these events are etched in the psyche and have molded us into who we are. A memoir is a way to touch at the heart of those feelings and allow them to be shared with others.

A memoir is different from an autobiography because it takes a “snapshot” of certain events in a person's life. A memoir tends to read more like a… Continue

Goodbye Clutter

Have you cleaned out your closet lately? In many homes a closet is used as a place of storage maybe for clothes, shoes, towels, or household appliances. Growing up my mother would often collect unwanted items that serve no purpose and store them in the closet. The problem was over a period of time my mother would continue storing unwanted items or clutter in the closet until the closet was unable to serve its natural purpose. Instead of being an… Continue

My Kindle

A quantum leap in reading.

In December 2009, on a no-special-gift-giving day, Don presented me with Kindle 2.

Imagine a hard cover 1cm thin and weighing 289 grams (10.2 oz) and readably squeezed into it 1,500 books. That’s my Kindle, a mean machine and thing of beauty. Slim, sturdy, comfortable and delicious to handle.

Within 45 seconds I purchased my first eBook, right on the device, wireless and no computer connection. Kindle works on the phone principle – 3G.… Continue
