We are honored to be hosting Grand Round 8/18/09, the largest medical blog carnival online.
I am looking for any blog topics related to living with an invisible illness, treating invisible illnesses, having a family member with one, caregiving, etc. Posts can be casual from a patient perspective, or more formal from a medical professional background.
I've just gotten a copy of Lahiri's more recent short story collection Unaccustomed Earth. I'm really looking forward to reading it. I've also joined a book club at work. We haven't met yet, but we've selected Aravind Adiga's Between the Assassinations, which is also a collection of short stories, as our first book. We're planning to discuss the first three stories in the collection at the end of this month.
In the meantime, my writing has slowed down considerably. I'm frustrated by… Continue

A few weeks ago, we had an email interaction with Henry at SelfPublishingReview.com, who made a very valuable suggestion for improving the user interface and readability of BookBuzzr on Mac systems. When we made the fix, Henry suggested that we write a guest post about running a book-marketing site.
Having finished my sci-fi action adventure novel, and found a publisher to print it. I now feel all the easy work has been done. It seems that now I need to market this book myself and I have bought marketing equipment and book signing materials at a cost that was higher than expected. Now I have all the equipment and the book, all I need now is to get it out there, so to speak. any ideas that you might think of or used to help would be so greatfully received.

‘Don’t let the way he looks bother you too much,’ the hushed tones of the nurse interrupted his train of thought, ‘ there’s no cause for worry. It’s just that the stroke froze the muscles on the left side of his face so he looks a little strange, but he’s not suffering, not in any pain.’
‘Well, that’s a relief George, I must say that’s a relief. Did you hear what the nice lady said? She said he’s not in any pain, dear.’ Even… Continue

The New Voices writing competition currently underway is looking for sponsors who would like to donate prizes, such as e-readers, to the winners of the 2010 contest. The soon-to-be completed New Voices website will advertise sponsors and allow sponsors a prime opportunity to show their generosity (and themselves). Don’t miss out on a chance to support Epic’s New Voices and garner attention for you and your company.
Have you noticed that most people are growing in fear? The anxiety and subsequent increased dis-ease (particularly heart attacks in younger and younger people) are increasing every single day! Have you sensed that you could not do in one hour today, what you could do in one hour a year ago or more and that things are just getting more chaotic and frantic? I can show you, on a scientific level, just how the two are very much related and how this… Continue

The landscapes Ivan Tarver speaks of can be desolate and unforgiving-cold and monochromatic. Here we are introduced to the heart of a man who possesses the poet's essential quality: finding a heartbeat when there seemingly is none. So even those withered and muted lives he depicts get an earnest and sensitive rendering-Tarver's own kind of blue. Indeed, "through all those weeds, beauty appears and makes everything around it, appear the same."
