A Space Anthology Book One – Borealis – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat
‘The Borealis is a hive of villainy where anything can be bought or sold – anything or anyone – if the price is right. Once intended to function as a city unto itself when the universe first began to ‘shrink’ and Mankind spread…

It's that time of year again, the crazy Christmas shopping rush. I live by a mall, so that's always evident to me as soon as it begins. The holidays don't just bring traffic and Salvation Army bell ringers, if you're like me, it's a time to reflect on family gatherings and the ones who won't be here to celebrate with you as they once did. Like poetry, music and songs can be interpreted in a variety of ways. For some reason this year, "I'll be home for Christmas" has taken on a whole new…

I managed to cross state lines and get another book into an indie bookstore! If you're in Mississippi go and check out Bay Books on Main street. The owner is very accomodating and she has two very cool cats that take up residence inside. Most importantly, you can get a copy of I Wandered from New Orleans right off the shelf! In real live bookstores in New Orleans, Mississippi and Atlanta! It's too bad that poetry is mostly disregarded by people as being too complicated and vague.…

Just listened to the Indigo Girls' new CD "Happy Holly Days" and I have to say it was pretty good. This is coming from someone of course who isn't a big fan of Christmas music. If the Indigo Girls put out a CD there is no way that I can pass it up. The girls have been a huge inspiration ever since I first heard them in Peni Lotoza's car after we got out of work at Terror on Church Street back in '93. 'Blood and Fire' was the first song I had ever heard and though many had…

The Leaf Peeper Murders – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat
‘The lovely Indian summer midmorning sun of Button Hollow, New
Hampshire, shown on her when the elderly Mrs. Anne Jolie Watson smelled
trouble, literally. She had just begun to water the last of her flower
beds when the unwelcome smell of chlorine rose to her nostrils like
chemical petals on the wind. She sniffed the air in…

I Thought I Heard the Lion’s Roar – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat
‘I have heard the roar of the lion – have you? Maybe it came in the
form of a betrayal from someone you loved. Perhaps it was hidden behind
the words of an employer who told you that your services were no longer
needed. Maybe it was disguised in the phone call you received from the
doctor saying that…

Your gift is what you do in your unique way. Ironically, you may do it so naturally, you don’t recognize it for what it is or realize what you might do with it.
Whatever you do in life, you can have a more joyful, meaningful experience if you shine the light on and share what is unique about you. We sometimes assume the way we do something is how everyone does it. This isn’t necessarily, and usually isn’t, the case. This is why something you do that you don’t think is very special or…

Many individuals don’t go after their dream because they don’t think they can, should, it’s too small, or “don’t know” what it is. Are any of these holding you back?
Two inspirational videos were emailed to me: one about a dog named Ricochet and one about Rudy Ruettiger, for whom the popular movie Rudy is about. The links are available on the Resources page of my Website, and that link is in my bio. Both are worth a watch, especially if you feel life purpose- or…

To borrow from Wayne Dyer, who borrowed from someone else: Do you focus on what floats or on what sinks? Does it matter, even in your inbox? Yes, it does.
It was with the best intentions one of my newsletter subscribers forwarded an offer from one of the big names, in the event I wanted to include it in the next issue. I looked at the offer and felt it again, that niggling feeling I get when such emails pop into my inbox: something is off about this.
It isn’t that there’s…

So finally we reach this years " Christmas Story" I hope you all enjoy it.
The night was hot and steamy, too hot, too sticky and too not like Christmas for the soldier that lay trying to get some rest before going on duty, in the non air-conditioned barracks room.
Last Christmas had been so special, a family sharing their Christmas joy, watching…

You may look down on me.
You may even critize me.
You may scandalize my name.
I will still expect my claim to success and fame.
You may act as if hurting my feelings is a game.
You may do all that you can to make me shame.
You may commit acts and try to make me the blame.
I will hold on to my dignity just the same.
Reaching the high calling of God, is what I aim.
I don't have to act like a wild animal, I'm tame.
I will try to stay focused, my…

If I were...
truly illuminated, what would you see?
Could the brightness of Christ fully shine
and the persona of me disappear?
If I were...
gifted, in other unknown ways.
Would I be able to discover them
or would I choose to deny them anyway?
If I were...
blessed, beyond Earthly needs.
How much of myself would I be willing to share,
besides just money and possessions?
If I were...
eloquent, in my verbose…
