Time management advice is found in great abundance on the Internet. You can determine how to schedule your day, how to set your priorities, how to delegate, and how to tackle your to-do list.
As a service business owner, you face an enormous number of tasks and responsibilities each and every day. What I've come to realize in my years of self-employment that my most valuable asset isn't my contact database or my marketing materials or my business plan.…

Eric, my fiancée, is a shift-worker for a local synthetic rubber manufacturing plant. This means that when he works, he works 12-hour shifts for 4-7 nights in a row (and some days). Because of this work schedule, he gets roughly a week off each month at the end of his shift cycle (if he's not called in for overtime). This means that he is home when I'm working in my…

How many hours have you spent this week with prospective clients who are great at draining your time and energy but can't seem to find the money or desire to hire you? I've had my weeks when the number is larger than I'd like to admit. Consequently, several years ago I implemented one strategy that has been my secret weapon in my client cultivation process -- I use my website to disqualify as many prospects as I can.
You may be saying, "What kind of…

One of the great joys (and biggest curses) of being self-employed is the ability to consider other opportunities as they come you way and ascertain how well they might work in your business. However, many entrepreneurs (myself included) love the idea creation/development stage but hate the follow-through, as we've already been distracted by the next opportunity or a new idea. I refer to this as the Bright Shiny Object…

I've had it with contact form sp*m. For those of you who haven't experienced the joy of this form of sp*m, it's something that automatically generated by sp*mbots and you receive lots of messages containing completely useless garbage via your contact form. Man, don't these people have a life???…

Everything happens for a reason and a purpose, or so my former business coach used to tell me. I guess that includes hurricanes, as well..:). My big takeaway from Hurricane Humberto was that I need to ramp up my passive revenue streams. It was quite cool to come home and find a number of sales receipts in my email inbox. However, the cold, hard reality is that the income from those…

Earlier this year I decided to "fire" Internet Explorer 7.0. It was crashing too often, hanging up too much, and I could never configure an interface that was most useful to me. I've been using Firefox as my browser and couldn't be happier -- it's everything a browser should be. The coolest thing about Firefox is the large number of plug-ins offered.…

My fiancée and I were speaking recently about the ability to sit still in what we both refer to as a "boring" environment and just do nothing. It's a challenge for each of us, as we both tend to engage ourselves in something, whether we're reading, watching a movie, or playing an online game, and we always fight the urge to just sit there and do nothing (and be contemplative or meditative). I know that there's a great deal of value and power of sitting and doing…

Honestly, no, I don't really love hurricanes. However, it's often better to laugh than to cry, and fortunately for us, Hurricane Humberto's bark was much worse than its bite. I guess it's always…

I consider Amazon.com to be the Internet pioneer for establishing affiliate programs. Their strategy to permit others to sell their products for a commission on affiliate websites has single-handedly help them become an Internet powerhouse and has resulted in Amazon.com becoming a household name.
As an online business owner, you, too, should be offering your own affiliate program. Affiliate marketing is so much less expensive than to take out a banner…
