BEING YOUR OWN PUBLISHER

Yeah, yeah, there's new tech parameters and a paradigm shift and all that.

But the important thing is that there are (and always have been) alternatives to writing something then trying to sell the rights to a publishing company. This group is to explore these areas of self-owned publishing biz.

Some writers have niche books, some have special needs (like texts for their seminars), some are just too entrepreneurial to sell of their own inspirations. And some just want to see something in print.

There is a spectrum these days, from big publishers through the new, small POD publishers, to using publishing services like lulu.com or iuniverse, to printing yourself and selling online, to release of downloadable mp3 "podcasts" or pdf manuals.

If you have expertise, experience, or questions in this area, don't be shy about posting them here. It's a rapidly expanding field and nobody knows everything about it, but lots of us are learning enough to do what we want to do and successfully get it across the counter.

If you're a golfer or know one, don't miss this delightful look into the final 20 years of "Golf's Greatest Gentleman"--Lord Byron Nelson! Written by his devoted wife, Peggy, Life with Lord Byron will allow you to peak into the private everyday life of this gentle sports giant and Texas rancher.

The text is replete with anecdotes and personal stories about Byron from professional golfers, fans, friends, and family. In addition, the book contains a one-hour CD of Byron reliving his 1945 "Streak" that still stands as the world's golfing record. And you'll love the 16 pages of full-color photos in the center of the book. 6 x 9, 242 pages, softcover.

Available in the Product Store of Creative Enterprises or on Amazon.com!

I've just self-published Breathless, a fantasy/romance novel. I networked all my friends and found an editor and a cover designer who agreed to help me for less that their normal rate. And my neighbor did my website for free. I did "legwork" for all of them, to cut down on how much time they spent. All in all, a good deal for all. So don't forget to network BEFORE your book is ready for sale! Check out Breathless at http://www.scottprussingpublishing.com

Weston College freshman Leesa Nyland has been fascinated by vampires since she was three years old. That’s when her mom started acting weird, refusing to go outside during the day and insisting the sunlight hurt her skin because she’d been bitten by a one-fanged vampire, of all things.
But fascinated doesn’t mean Leesa believes. Any more than she believes in blue fire, people who live for centuries, and kisses that can kill. But when her beloved older brother disappears after warning Leesa not to come looking for him, she is forced to consider all these and more.
She also has to figure out what to do about her mysterious new boyfriend. She knows Rave likes her a lot—so why won’t he kiss her? And why is he always talking about vampires?
As Leesa draws closer to finding her brother, she faces some gut-wrenching decisions. Should she risk her mom’s life trying to “cure” her? Should she continue seeing Rave, after he reveals his dangerous secret? And most terrifying of all, should she make the ultimate sacrifice—give up her humanity—to save her brother?

Looking for opinions on the draft of my cover copy please.
Captured Hearts is the title of my new novel
Sylvia Masters is a hot fifty two year old widow and CEO of Masters Investment Group. Lieutenant Julian Reynolds is on the scene to inform her of the murder of her former fiancée Addison Lockwood. When Julian goes to the Masters’ home to question Sylvia he is blown away by her beauty.

Her looks and strong personality inspires Julian to solve the case and get the woman of his dreams. When Sylvia offers the Lieutenant a cup of coffee their hands touch and their eyes lock. After a tumultuous beginning Julian summons up the courage to ask Sylvia to dinner. Problem: Julian is ten years younger and Sylvia isn’t interested in being labeled a Cougar.

Refusing the Lieutenant’s invitation Sylvia is flattered that this much younger man who is so fine admits he’s interested and he’s not a quitter. She agrees to coffee with Julian only if she can meet him. The undeniable chemistry is out of control but she insists their relationship be kept secret. What would her family say?

Can Sylvia have a future with Julian?
