Someone in the film industry asked me to do a “pitch and a “treatment” for my novel, Horizons Past ( http://www.horizonspast.com ). He has a couple of ideas to try to get it into development as a movie. I had some notion of what a pitch is, but I’d never heard of a treatment. Fortunately, he gave me some examples and illustrations to follow. But I decided to buy Writing Treatments That Sell, by Kenneth Atchity and Chi-Li Wong to…

Today was my Amazon campaign. What a crazy day. Everything that could go wrong did. One of my JV partners with a list of 50,000, had problems with his email system and could'nt send any emails out today. Then another JV partner ,who uses the same system, had the same problem! I happen to use this system too,so I sent frantic emails to tech support. Finally around 7:00 pm they were able to resolve some of the issues. But I don't think the partner with the 50,000 emails has all of the problems…

Okay, on this game board of life, I'm jumping into publishing now
with both feet. I've read some of the books, (thank you Kremer,
Reiss, Poynter, Levine and some others), and have run a lot
of numbers. I've even got my first employee and looking for free work
from my husband.
What I want to know about now is: Talk to me About Distribution. Do you
have a wholesaler? What type of distributor did you enlist? Do we need
them? Can you share some bad…

Our Book Market Ning member, Christina Rowe, is launching her Amazon promotion tomorrow, April 12th.
Let's all hold an intention for her to enjoy a huge success and, if possible, let people in your network know about it.
You can send people here:

If we help and support each other, we all win.
Go Christine!

1. Congrats to all the people who have joined this network. I've seen a lot of people helping other people already. That's why I founded the network.
2. Please note that I don't OWN this network. It's not my site. It's your site. My site is BookMarket.com. That's where I sell things and control the content. Here I don't control the content. You do. I just started up this network so people could share.

Hello Fellow Authors,
This is my friend, Christina Rowe, working on her amazon.com best-seller campaign. We are sitting in the Barnes and Noble in Freehold, N.J. brainstorming ways to get the word out. Christina is doing her best-seller campaign on Thursday, April 12, 2007, which also happens to be her birthday. Having a number one best-seller would be a great birthday present, huh? What is exciting about Christina's campaign is that she is…

Last week I experienced a side of writing/publishing/marketing I never knew existed. My mother-in-law, Rita Kerr, asked me to accompany her to an adult education class entitled “Writing, Publishing & Marketing Your 1st Book (or 7th)” offered by a local school district. It was quit an eye opener to learn the author teaching the class claimed to make $250,000 per year self-publishing and…

In order to see things from different perspectives, I have been known to ‘experiment’ at times.
When I was 19, I wanted to see how handicapped people were really treated. I went to Manhattan with a girlfriend and ‘posed’ as a blind person for a day. It was an extremely enlightening experience. Only a ‘non-New Yorker’ will stereotype a typical New Yorker as being heartless for that day proved to me why I am proud to be a New Yorker. I had strangers help me on all counts with not one…

Hi to all,
I am in difficulties.
I don't know how to post a posting on the forum.
The link I get on my email stating I have a message does not tell me from whom it is.
Most times the link does not work, even when I press Ctrl and then click, resulting in a message to say that the server cannot be found.
When I go on this site, I cannot find where to reply to those I know who they are - is it on my page, on their page or on the forum.
So, Help Help Help.
My email…

Peter Matthiessen came to town two weeks ago for a reading and a literary luncheon. This was his second visit sponsored by Gemini Ink of San Antonio, Texas. He gave a writing class during his first appearance over five years ago, which I attended. Afterward we had a short visit about the Aransas Wildlife Refuge and about fly-fishing for Redfish on Texas' Laguna Madre flats. I sent him a letter confirming some of our thoughts on a possible visit.
I was quite amazed when I…

Hi everyone,
Even though my book - From the Promised land to the Lucky Country is doing well on Amazon, I cannot see it in any other book page on Amazon in-house recommendations.
What I mean to say is that it does not show on other book pages as a recommended to be read when one bought a similar book, or that people who bought another book of the same type bought also my book and so on. I can only see that the same books are always recommended. Does anyone know how does Amazon choose…

Some people here still don't know what to do with friends -- whether or not to invite other members of the network to be their friends, why have friends, how to use them, etc. So, here's my advice:
First, collect friends. They make you look good. Plus friends can lead to real friendships and relationships. We can all use more friends.
Second, all friends become part of your address book so you can email them directly, either singly or in groups, if you have a message to…

My business has no boundaries creatively or demographically. Thanks to 21st century technology, my virtual team is scattered throughout the United States: I have proofreaders and editors in New York and Texas, IT personnel in California, Philadelphia and South Carolina, camera crews on the west and east coast, public relations associates throughout the country and the list goes on. The irony of my business is that within a team of many, I have only personally met two members but our connection…

Okay, I have ten traditionally published nonfiction books that I've done and they all have been alright experiences. But now I am tired of the query letter and submission process, don't want to wait a year to find out if I'm in "the 10% club" again, SO, I'm thinking about becoming a publisher and running some of my own books.
I've purchased several books on the process: Dan Poynter's Self-Publishing Manual, Mark Levine's The Fine Print and Fern Reiss' The Publishing Game.…
