Succeeding In Uncertain Times

After publishing two consecutive books in the past four months that deal with the subject of business and people who are successful at making money (Pecking Order - September 2008 and The Equation - January 2009) and with the state of the world economy being what it is, I was asked the following question in a recent interview with the METRO newspaper staff to be published and distributed around the city streets of New York, Philly and Boston:

METRO - The world is mired in a nearly… Continue

Scene Stealer

Nocturne and Dorchester historical author Bonnie Vanak is hosting my blog tour today. We're talking about secondary characters who refuse to stay in the background. I spotlight Isabella Wren--a former courtesan and now Lady Wexford. Bonnie has also posted a picture of me in my opera singing days (No, that gorgeous creature in the mask is not me.) But I played… Continue

In February 2008 Mike McConnell, the Director of US National Intelligence, testified before the House Intelligence Committee and said this, “The FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) of Pakistan serve as a staging area for al Qaeda’s attacks in support of the Taliban in Afghanistan as well as a location for training new terrorist operatives for attacks in Pakistan, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the United… Continue

Wake Up Everybody

Change is a wonderful thing. I consider myself a Change Agent. As a Life Coach it is my duty to assist and teach clients to embrace change. Change reminds me of a song called, Wake Up Everybody. Remember? It is that old school Harold Melvin & Blue Notes classic. You know the lyrics sing along with me:

Wake up everybody no more sleeping in bed.

No more backward thinking time for thinking ahead.

The world has changed so very much from what it us to… Continue

American Booksellers Association Seeking New Director... (maybe new direction?)

I'm betting they will - and that us authors should keep our ear to the ground as it unfolds - and perhaps suggest how we think authors can support book sellers in selling more books. What do YOU think? Here's the news.

Shaking My Head and Chuckling

I received positive responses from two potential publishers this week. Both are interested in my mss. and included some advice for re-writes, "par for the course." Some of the synthesized comments included:

- Plot too complicated

- Plot too simple

- Too much dialogue

- Not enough dialogue

- Too many characters

- Needs more characters

- Moves too quickly from one scene to the next

- Moves too slowly from one scene to the next

Review

I encourage any who is publishing your book for the first time to work hard to find someone who will review your book. I now know how important it is to seek book reviews before you get published. I can't stress it enough. Lessons learned.

Daria Rose's Inspiration For The Day!

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart; but if it doesn't, be content that it grew in yours.

Reviews of Hidden Passages: Tales to Honor the Crones

Hidden Passages - Tales to Honor the Crones by Vila SpiderHawk © 2007

Vanilla Heart Publishing ISBN 978-0-97965445-6-5 262 pages $15.99 (U.S.)

The subtitle of this book, "Tales to Honor the Crones", gave me a false impression. A collection of stories about crones should be about the end of life, but these stories are full of life. They are vivid, arresting, and entertaining.

Oh, there is death…

I was excited to begin this book after reading Ms. SpiderHawk’s book Hidden Passages: Tales of to Honor the Crones. I was definitely not disappointed. The story begins with a young girl, Judy, living with her family in Germany. Her family builds a wrought iron fence to attempt to contain her. OH my goodness, I have been gone for so long. I hope you haven't forgotten about little ole me. It is just that I have been so busy. I even managed to take a long needed vacation back in November. Before I left on my little vacation, I was busy with my books. Yes, I have some new ones published and available on Amazon.com…
