Self-Published Sunday Alan Sakowitz Miles Away...Worlds Apart

We have an ambitious tripleheader today, three novels each different, each has a decidedly different flavor, and each is the type of novel that one can take and use for different reasons. Our first novel this morning has its roots in a Ponzi scheme, but that isn’t what I want to focus on, instead I want to focus on the main message Alan Sakowitz is trying to deliver, or at least, I think he is. Here is the synopsis of the novel and I think you may possible see where I am going with…

Cougar On The Prowl

The cougar is a concealment and ambush hunter. A good cougar stalks their prey and then circles in for the kill. Okay ladies, kill is a metaphor. For us lazy hunters, the ambush method of hunting uses less energy and has a greater chance of success.

The best place for hunting our prey is senior centers and retirement communities. Yes, you heard me right. Senior centers. The men are old, hearing impaired and can’t run very fast. C’mon, even I can out run them while they’re…

The Warlord's Comeuppance

Stealing from a warlord and giving him the one finger salute as I made my getaway was not the brightest thing I’d ever done. Okay, it was an incredibly stupid stunt.

Did I mention that this particular Coletti warlord is the most feared in the entire galaxy? That Zarek’s the ultimate predator and even the other warlords are scared spitless of him? That he never ever stops until he either captures or kills his prey?

Yeah, I have the big, bad after me and all…

More Free Contests

When I entered the November Novel writing site this week, I found a list of free contests. If you missed the November contest and would like to try writing a 50,000 word book in a different month, the contest will be held in June and September as well as November of next year. You can google search for the links.

The Amazon Break Through Novel contest is going to be open for submissions in mid January. I've entered that with no expectation of winning, but to be a contestant…

Digital short Saturday A.J. Pompano Driving Directions

Paranormal mystery murder short story is what the tags read on this digital short story by A.J. Pompano. Has your GPS ever given you the wrong directions? Ever wonder why? One explanation can be gotten from this brick of plastic explosives disguised in a firecracker 4910 words. Check out the story line:

“Chuck Stratton’s detective father brought two disappointments to the grave. One was that that he couldn’t find a kidnapped girl in time to prevent her murder and the other…

Digital short Saturday Tor Richardson

I have featured Tor in the past and enjoyed his work so much I wanted to read some more. He has a nice package up over at Smashwords that has four digital short stories in it called: Four Felonies and One Very Small Problem. The price to pick up all four is $2.99, not bad for four quality stories. I have featured one already, Starting Over , please check our archives for my thoughts on that. Today I want to concentrate on another digital…

How a once broke single dad is self-publishing his way to success

Today I read an inspirational story about a writer who is self-publishing his way to success via Smashbooks, "an e-book publishing and distribution platform for ebook authors, publishers and readers." Brian S. Pratt, writer of fantasy novels and single father of 3, is, as Smashwords founder Mark Coker put it, "the future of publishing."…

What would I change if I could?

I've always written, but sometimes I wished I had tackled it REALLY seriously when I had less encumbrances, to wit, mortgage and rugrats. I've not long watched 'Hot Tub Time Machine', which you are probably aware is about four guys going back to 1986 via a hot tub, and they have the chance to change certain events that caused their lives to suck somewhat in present day. If I went back to 1986, I'd concentrate more on my writing. I tried to remember what stands out most for me regarding 1986.…

Around the Globe with SAMANTHA ALLARD

This week I begin a series of author interviews. I'll be travelling to various parts of the world to talk with them (so I may max out my credit card on expenses. lol Just kidding, I make the authors pay my travel expenses. Okay, kidding again. I actually use my newly discovered transporter. Yes, that's the truth.)

I think you'll find the answers to a standard questionnaire very interesting and I encourage you to click on the links and check them out further.

Graphic Novel Friday Kill Shakespeare Conor McCreery/ Anthony Del Col

I am going to lead off with this today for a few reasons. Prepare yourself because I am going to be hitting you with a bunch of information on this bad boy. Monday I am also going to lead off with this dynamic duo, Conor McCreery & Anthony Del Col, in a Q&A I was lucky enough to get. The graphic novel is original, fresh, irreverent, and just about all the things I love in a graphic novel. Here is the official press release:

Do you want to coauthor a critical book on American education?

I am a teacher-writer of 20 years. I am interested in coauthoring a critical book on American education with an attorney-writer. This potential book will have the following theme: American education as a huge animal without four legs, no connection to jobs, no connection to community and parents, no computer-individualized curricula for its extremely diverse population, and no decent treatment of its many good teachers. More importantly it will be indicting of a system which excludes…
