Thanksgiving Vampire Trivia!

Just in time for American Thanksgiving: While not technically a vampire, the Wendigo is a fearsome creature, found primarily in Minnesota and Ontario, Canada. While some might think he's related to Sasquatch, this ancient creature has his own horrible past.

This hapless creature would be created through the rough lifestyle and death of early travelers. Failing to find anything to eat, a trapper or mountain man might fall upon the final frontier - the need to devour human flesh to stay…

They're Off...

My first set of page proofs are done and back to the publishers, and a day early! I'm excited now for two reasons-- I'm one step closer to my second book's release, and I can get back to working on works in progress!

Can anyone shed some light on how to start your own publishing company?

Recently, I have heard several authors indicated they have launched their own publishing companies in an effort to compete in the publishing industry.

Anyone have any comments on the pros and cons to taking this route? Are there any websites or referrals you would suggest to research this option? What are the best "How To" guides to get this ball rolling?

I look forward to your thoughts.

Happy Reading!

Oh, so thankful

Today I baked two pies for tomorrow: a pumpkin and a wild huckleberry. In the morning I'll cook the smelly rutabagas that we ate every Thanksgiving growing up, the rutabagas my brothers love and that no other female in my family will come near. And then my husband and I will go over the river and through the woods... or rather down the long freeway, spend the day laughing and talking. And, of course, we'll marvel over how much all the kids have grown (including mine!). And I'll think about all… Continue

Leading New Book, Welcome Marketing Ideas

Avoiding Cancer One Day At A Time (www.avoidcancernow.com) has received great publicity and reviews since its release in early 2007. We've done a number of author signing events, seminars and conferences in the first year after publication. I welcome replies from members on:

- the best marketing approaches to take in the second year after publication

- how to get a book into the U.K. outside of Amazon

- the impact of a review…

Page Proof's nearly done!

My first set of page proof's are nearly finished. There is only forty-seven pages left to read through, then off it goes. Cover design is next, and I'm actually requesting the same cover designer who designed my first book cover. I'll get one more set of page proofs, then that will be it until my book gets delivered to my door! At first I wasn't as excited as I was with the first book, but since I got the page proofs, I am really excited now, knowing it isn't too far off until it's printed,…

What is a "Legitimate" Author?

It all began with Mystery Writers of America's approved publisher list. I've been an active member of MWA for years--but at this moment my publisher is not recognized as an approved publisher because they are a small press that doesn't give advances or print 500 books at a time (Mundania uses Print on Demand technology--which many New York publishers do too), though they do pay royalties, never charge authors anything, and take returns (some of MWA's other…

They're Here!!!

They finally arrived! That’s right—my book Laura and the Leprechauns is officially available. It was a pretty incredible feeling to see thousands of copies being unloaded off a huge freighter truck—I had no idea what to expect! So now the time to fulfill all of my advance orders begins, as well as notifying the bookstores that it’s finally available. I am so relieved that…
