My Weekend with Two Poets

Those of us––whether writers, editors, or production personnel––who long ago cast our professional lot with the publishing industry, know that it can be as volatile and unpredictable as any other. Unless you are sitting on a stack of raving reviews for a bestseller (or at least a moderate seller) on its way to a tenth printing and adaptation to a major film, the crucial motivation to stick to one’s literary guns can sometimes simply vanish and leave you floundering for reasons and means to… Continue

I am back!

OH my goodness, I have been gone for so long. I hope you haven't forgotten about little ole me. It is just that I have been so busy. I even managed to take a long needed vacation back in November. I went to Florida. It was so nice, but so cold. I couldn't believe it. I was there for almost 30 days.

Before I left on my little vacation, I was busy with my books. Yes, I have some new ones published and available on Amazon.com…

Happy Holidays are over!

Yes, they are, and as much as I have enjoyed them, I'm glad of it. I had wonderful visits with my children and my friends, but now it's time to get back to business. I'm waiting for the funds to get my first book edited, and in the meantime I'm getting back to my second book.

My good friend, Brian Porter, wrote me about the movie deal he has made on A Study In Red, and I'm so very proud for him. He is a great writer and deserves the best. He's a great inspiration for all of us.… Continue

Opportunities abound

I read a LOT of writing industry articles, newsletters, e-zines and the like. Right now, they are all saying the same thing...it's all about the blog. Internet marketing is all the rage. It's viral, and if we (authors) don't jump in on it, then we'll miss the boat.

It's tough to say whether or not the boat has already left the dock. There are millions upon millions of blogs out there. One would think our singular voice can't be heard among the cacophony (sp?) of others out there all… Continue

Week's End

Despite the ongoing financial mess, my wories about my retirement fund, my terror about the state of the country and the world, my mood today is much better than it was at the start of the week. What certanly helped was spending a large part of it with family and friends who've done their best to cheer me up, showering me with affection, buying me celebratory meals, making me laugh. Then, too, the election polls have shifted in "my" favor and I'm elated, as it encourages me to believe that,… Continue

Days to Remember in September

(artwork by brothers Greg and Tim Hildebrandt)

Before the hours of insanity and annihilation that changed world history on September 11, 2001, the month of September was noted by members of my family primarily as the birth month for at least a half dozen individuals. It remained, of course, their month after the destruction of New York City’s World Trade Center and the loss of thousands of lives, but the shadow of that event tends to lessen… Continue
