Book publishing and promotion
These are my thoughts, based upon my experience in using the print on demand publishing services of Lulu.com and what to do after you publish.
My feeling about Lulu comes down to money. For about $100 you get an ISBN and what they call Global Distribution , which means your book is printed by Lightning and distributed through Ingram to online and regular retailers who chose to purchase a print on demand (POD) book.
Cost per book is based upon…

Anyone can give you ideas to help you get published. Here's a few helpful hints to make sure you never have to worry about getting The Call.
1.
Never finish a manuscript. Surely just your premise scrawled quickly onto the back of a napkin ought to be enough. It's the idea that counts.
2.
Don't accept critique from others. It's your story. You should be able to tell it from 37 different points of view if you want. And be sure to ignore the publisher's…

Book Trailer: An Effective Promotional and Marketing Tool
By
Theresa Chaze
Book trailers are more than images set to music, nor do they just a recap of the book synopsis. In fact, they are an effect promotional tool that will create interest by going beyond the synopsis to the "heart of the book. Although, book trailers are considered promotional material, they are in reality an advertisement. The difference lies in the length and basic format.

Something many authors either don't realize, or want to think doesn't apply to them, is the need to market and promote their works. However, most authors who are actually selling their books and making a profit from them seem to have a very clear understanding of the fact the book doesn't sell itself. They also realize that just because they wrote a book doesn't mean Oprah will miraculously discover them.
In the real world of book marketing and selling the challenge can be where to…

Holly Cow what a great network of which to me a member. I only just joined yesterday and already I've picked up tons of good information on how to promote a book. For me the information is simply invaluable because it comes from direct experience and not simply theory.
Self promotion can be a tough job. This is something which which I am very familiar. In the early 90's I was the owner operator of a small Canadian import / export and distribution company. I sourced products overseas…

Writing is by nature a solitary profession and more than occasionally frustrating. This is especially true when it comes to marketing yourself as a writer, pitching a book proposal or article or promoting something you've already published.
A network like this is a great place for writers to hang out and exchange information, tips and generally rub elbows with other writers. I's often said that misery loves company but, just being part of a supportive network might in fact make one…

I never considered myself a gambler. I've never played cards for money, never placed a bet, never bought a lottery ticket (except to support some school project, considering the money spent as a donation). So, what do I do? I take the biggest gamble in my life - start a publishing company. It's not a subsidy company or a authors-pay-for-umpteen-million-copies-up-front company. We pay royalties and edit everything and expect high quality books.
If I could get some gamblers to take a…

By Sherryle Kiser Jackson, author of Soon and Very Soon

When does our 15 minutes begin? Is it when you have crystallized a theme or idea in your mind and proudly announce to friends and loved ones, “I am writing a book?” Is it the minute you learn to juggle the creative and business side…
