Weaver Woman

Introductions are generally hard for me. Something about "hello, I'm Tichaona. I'm a poet who has written and published two books of my poetry; am embarking on the path of running my own publishing company and under the banner of that company (Whirlwind Publishing) have published two authors, A. Shakur Towns and Abena Isake" leaves me incoherent. Therefore, before I start dissembling, let me introduce you to my literary concept of self:

Return from Book Tour and Out Again

Aloha Everyone!

I've recently returned from a book signing tour and long-overdue family visit. Once returned home, I found orders for more books in the mail and have been joyfully handling that big job of autographing, packing and shipping. Had hoped to be back on TWB soon. However, I am now preparing to leave for another trip - to Honolulu for at least a week. That should be my last trip of the year. From then on, I've got two books that need a final run-thru before publishing. I've… Continue

Tips on Marketing your Books in the Fall

Well, Halloween is almost here, and before we know it we'll be stuffing ourselves with turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, among many other delectable treats, I'm sure. Then, if you're like me, as I sit with my family sharing the end of the Thanksgiving holiday, the realization will hit me (like it always does) that Christmas is ONLY four weeks away...

If you're an author, you're probably always looking for places to market your books. For me, I'm lucky enough to have chosen a… Continue

Yvonne Perry has released an eBook Online Promotion Made Easy

Here’s a note to let everyone know that I have released my new eBook, Book Marketing in the Digital Age, Online Promotion Made Easy.

Then, I added everything I presented in a three-hour workshop at the Tennessee Writers Alliance 3rd Annual Conference, and included the most recent research I've done on SEO and social… Continue

Warning signs and prevention of author burn-out

Writing can indeed become an obsession, as can promoting one's book. I always suggest to authors (and often remind myself) that we must find a balance between writing, promoting, other jobs/chores, family, friends and fun. Each needs to be a slice of the pie for authors to feel completely successful and not burnt out. Over the years I've witnessed author burn-out many…

Does it make a difference if a writer researches for a novel?

I pride myself on my research. If a writer wants a story to ring true and be believable, it’s vital to check facts and sources. For my novel Whale Song, I researched killer whales and myths for close to 2 months. There is so much material out there that I could have read about both subjects for years!

I found the information on killer whales to be very…

Self-publishing success stories

Big Houses Benefit from Savvy Self-Publishers by Rachel Deahl -- Publishers Weekly

Every so often a self-publishing Cinderella story makes headlines. In 2003 it was a home-schooled 20-year-old, Christopher Paolini, who sold his first novel about a dragon to Knopf, and in 2006 Kathleen McGowan got a seven-figure deal from S&S for her Da Vinci Code–esque Mary Magdalene series. And in the coming months, look for more self-publishing success stories, as the big… Continue

When Insults Had Class

Once upon a time, before the advent of the two word insult ending in 'you', There were those who's pride in language and articulation made the art of the insult worth the effort. To those who enjoy the classics, I submit the following:

He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire. -- Winston Churchill

I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.-- Clarence Darrow

He has never been known to use a word that… Continue
