Finding Your Bliss

I think that out of all the requests that I get for ghostwriting, completing novels for people seems to be the # 1 request.

And, that's just fine with me, because I absolutely LOVE to write novels. It's something that is so creative and expressive. I don't think I will ever grow tired of writing them.

Right now I am working on a novel for a client where I am performing "Book Doctoring" services. The novel is so beautiful and the tweaking and rewriting of sections comes very…

A SLAP FOR INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORES

I GOT A COPY OF THIS FROM STAR PUBLISH. ONE MORE EXAMPLE OF HOW INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORES AND EVEN AUTHORS ARE TREATED BY THE PUBLISHING MACHINE. WE SHOULD DO ALL THAT WE CAN TO SUPPORT THE INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORES AS THEY ARE INDEPENDENT AND SMALL PRESS AUTHOR ALLIES. NEXT TIME YOU ARE ASKED TO PLEDGE-TELL THEM YOU WILL WHEN THEY START SUPPOTING THEIR ECONOMIC BASE-THE LITTLE GUY!

Getting the Attention of Your Local Newspaper

What you need to know

I've spent the last 20 years working for a community newspaper in the NW suburbs of Illinois. I can only tell you what I know from my own experiences.

1) How do you get your foot in the door?

For one, know when the news staff is overwhelmed with news or digging for it. Summer time can be one of the slowest times of the year because school is out and people are vacation. Step one call, the Lifestyle, Social or Entertainment editor. Once. If you hound…

It's a great way to reach almost 3,000 subscribers so if you want to send me a review or any other information to help you promote your book,… Continue

Publish or Self-Publish? That is the Question...

Hmmm...this is my first book. But it's also the first of many books. My husband and I are torn between the two.

We drove to the beach last night and as we were sprawled out on the sand we did the pros and cons...still nothing.

I've gotten such great information on self-publishing as well as publishing, so I'm sure we'll figure it out soon.

First Book Signing

Just back from Denver and my first book signing. What FUN! We were using galleys at a trade show because the book doesn't come out until October but the audience was delighted to get a signed original. It's wonderful to talk with readers about the book and see their excitement. I could get used to this attention, it's like being back in radio.

Your Online Book Promotion Campaign: Is It Working for You?

This is a question that I’m asked quite often. As a busy author, you want to focus your promotional efforts where they count most. But it’s often difficult to determine what’s working and what’s not unless a very specific, isolated promotion generates a huge volume of sales. I love analyzing things and have a very detailed system for tracking my sales success. Here are some basic tips:

  • Keep a detailed log of all your book promotion efforts -- articles published…

First Entry, June 27, 2007

Hi I'm Gwen, publisher at Dragon Moon Press. We're a small genre house specializing is fantasy, science fiction (mostly soft stuff) and writing how-to's.

We've been around for almost 14 years, and are growing like mad... but always searching for ways to market our books cheaply since we run on a very small budget :)

So, I'd like to say HI to everyone. Glad to be a part of your group here on Ning.

Promoting books

For the past two months, I've spent a lot of time learning different ways to promote my books. The latest one, Fly With The Mourning Dove, has received some good reviews. I also learned how to promote my only POD book, which I reissued after the publisher who first published it went out of business. I now own all rights to Wandering In The Shadows of Time: An Ozarks Odyssey and am sending out excerpts to magazines for publication as a way of promoting the book. I learned this at a conference in… Continue
