Women of Magdalene Brims with Repressed Sensuality

From his first words, Dr. Robert Mallory, narrator and newly appointed physician of The Magdalene Ladies Lunatic Asylum, grasps the reader’s fullest attention, and rarely does his grip loosen as the theme of Rosemary Poole-Carter’s fascinating historical novel, Women of Magdalene, unfolds.

The young doctor, influenced by an undisclosed personal tragedy and further damaged by years as a Civil War surgeon, takes charge of physical medicine at the asylum, but each time the…

Cheryl's 'Create a Corpse' Contest

"I kill people off for a living." That’s what I like to say when someone asks me what I do for a living. You don't want to miss reading the rest of this tongue-in-cheek post about mystery, murder, messages...and corpses. Author Karen Harrington invited me to share a bit about my mystery/suspense novels and while visiting Karen's blog A Writer's Diary, I…

If you conducted a poll, I would say about 95% would smile, then go on to other things. No "Omg, you're an author? Can I have your autograph?"

No, it just isn't that way anymore - not to writers and authors who don't have the caliber of more well-known writers/authors. It's not that we expect much, but sometimes we are a… Continue

Debbie has beautiful feet...

Yes, she does…and not from an expensive pedicure. In fact, when I was Debbie’s age, unlike her, my focus was on my looks, the perfect hairstyle, being popular, having enough clothes to flatter my figure, and the guy who would be my next date.

But Debbie’s focus is on greater things---she visits public high schools in New York City, bringing the good news, the Gospel, to students who are hurting, angry, confused, in…

Today I got a email from the President of our local Easter Seals. I have been booked to speak at their annual dinner on November 15, 2007. I'm actually nervous about it. I have been a guest speaker before for maybe 20 people but this event is suppose to have over 100. Wish me luck!!!

The Impact of Independent Publishers

In the last ten years, independent publishing has grown in popularity at a staggering pace. In a market once reserved for high dollar authors and big named publishers, the independents have broken through, and

have solidified a foothold in the industry. With the advent of the

internet, the publishing industry found themselves in a rapidly

Terrorism and the Poet

The great Sufi poet Jelalludin Rumi––whom some consider a saint––for the past two decades has often been described as “the most popular poet in the United States.” For some, following September 11, 2001, that popularity stirred feelings of political ambivalence while for others it provided much-needed spiritual comfort. New Review for Haunted Richmond, Virginia

Here's what Apex Rreviews said about Haunted Richmond, Virginia: Rather than a trumped-up collection of ghost stories designed to scare the bejesus out of fireside Boy Scout campers, Haunted Richmond is a thorough, informative, well-researched account of real history and its real consequences. Makes for perfect late night reading - just make sure all the windows and doors are locked first.
